Nuweiba

Nuweiba is a beautiful coastal town and it is 200 far from Sharm El Sheikh, 465 km southeast from Cairo. It situated on the Gulf of Aqaba at Sinai Peninsula. The word Nuweiba is an Arabic word that means “Bubbling Springs”. The climate of Nuweiba is the same as the Egyptian coastal town in the Red Sea Area. On the Aqaba Gulf which is a little cold in the winter, hot in the summer. It is moderate in the spring and autumn.

Formally, Bedouin tribes like Tarabin to the north and the Muzeina to the south inhabited Nuweiba. The history of the town goes back to when it was a resting place. However, it’s meeting point for pilgrimage trips from Africa to Mecca and back.

When Israel occupied the area, they gave Nuweiba under the Israeli name (Neviot). After the liberation of all cities of South Sinai, the town expanded. Nuweiba Port was established in 1985. The Port allows easy travel and transports between Jordan and Egypt. The castle of Nuweiba built on top of the remains of older castle in 1893. 

The town divides into three main parts. The Port of Nuweiba serves for vessels, boats and ferry-boats to pass between Jordan and Egypt. The city has hotels, resorts, bazaars, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops. The Tarabin Village is famous for its Bedouin-style camps and cheap prices. The Beduin camp and beach strip where most backpackers like to go.

Water and sea activities are the most important to do in Nuweiba. Above all going to the beach to enjoy waking on soft sands, swimming in the awesome Red Sea water. Enjoy diving and snorkeling to see the wonderful coral reef, practice the wind surf and kite surf. Here there are exceptional beautiful coral reefs for the lover of diving and snorkel. In the evening, you can try ridding camels in Tarabin Village. You can spend wonderful time at Petra Camp for good prices.

If you are in Nuweiba, you can also make a visit to Mount Sinai to visit the famous Saint Catherine Monastery. Visit it for overnight to enjoy the spiritual atmosphere and to ascend the sacred mountain of Moses.
