Killzone 2 Gets a US Release Date

Get ready to enter the zone...of killing. For the second time.

It's OK to be excited about this.
It's OK to be excited about this.
It's been a tumultuous three-and-a-half years since that first, fateful Killzone 2 trailer. As trite as it has become to bring up that prerendered bit of fanboy bait, it's still one of the defining parts of the game's legacy, though honestly, from everything that I've seen since E3 '08, Guerrilla's big PS3 first-person shooter is actually looking to make good on a lot of those lofty promises. Looking at these side-by-side comparisons of the E3 '05 trailer and the current multiplayer beta--courtesy of the internet--I think the game is actually looking better than the trailer.

You'll get to play it for yourself soon enough, as last night on G4's X-Play, it was announced that Killzone 2 will be hitting store shelves in the US on February 27th, 2009. That's a Friday, as opposed to the usual Tuesday-ish release most games get, reaffirming that Sony is taking this one extra serious. You know, it used to be that you could count on a lull in new releases after the holidays, giving you time to catch up on all the awesome games there weren't enough hours in the day to play. But between early '09 releases like MadWorld, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, and now Killzone 2, I'm going to have to either cut food or sleep out of my schedule.
