We already reported last week that the white flavor of the Nokia N9 has been spotted in Finland at a third party retailer for 630 EUR (835 USD). Today, the Finnish handset maker officially announced that it has started to ship the white N9 in selected regions.

The white Nokia N9 comes just in time for the holiday season and is aimed at Nokia fans who wish to get into the Christmas spirit with this white-themed smartphone.

The avalanche of white-themed smartphone will probably continue as handset makers are trying to attract more customers with these appealing devices.

Samsung is among the companies that launched several white-colored Galaxy family smartphones, such as the Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S I and II, as well as the Galaxy S II HD LTE.

Motorola, HTC and RIM are also among the handset manufacturers that came up with white-theme versions of their popular smartphones.

It looks like Nokia planned this perfectly, as the N9 will be out just in time for Christmas. The question is where exactly the white Nokia N9 will be available for purchase.

The Finnish company did not reveal any details on the locations where the phone will hit shelves. Nokia simply mentions that white Nokia N9 is “created through a special process”, and that it “features a high gloss finish that makes the color shine.”

According to Nokia, the white version of the N9 comes with a whopping 64GB onboard memory and the same enhanced 8-megapixel camera that features dual LED flash, autofocus and Carl Zeiss optics.

No word on the price yet, but it will probably depend on the region where the phone is retailed.

In other news, Nokia also announced that a new software update 1.1.1 with Arabic support is now available for download in North Africa and the Middle East.
