Rollipop Rolled Ice Cream

Fun addition to Iowa City, I would say they offer a fun and memorable experience of ice cream that stands out from the traditional scoop and serve.

They offer a variety of options for here, you should be able to find something delicious. Once you pick your ice cream, they will make it and roll it in front of you. It's fun watching if nothing else since it's something I've never seen before. This place is worth a stop to try them out.

TLDR: trendy, yummy ice cream that takes about 15-20 minutes to make.

Apparently rolled ice cream is all the rage and it's finally hit iowa city. For those out of the loop like me, the process involves making the ice cream from scratch in front of your eyes and then rolling it into several small ice cream burritos and put into a cup with some toppings.

The entire process takes about 15 minutes and is pretty interesting to watch. The place is brand new so I expect things to happen faster with time. The flavors were good and one ice cream was enough for two people.

I had the matcha mania and it was delicious. Not too sweet, with the right amount of flavor. I had the matcha mania and can't wait to try the other flavors.

My boyfriend took me here on our latest date night, though I don't usually frequent ice cream shops (minor lactose intolerant). I was just expecting run-of-the-mill ice cream - but was pleasantly surprised!

The ice cream rolls were tasty and put together in our bowls in a lovely display with the toppings. The server asked us if we wanted the one order in separate dishes, which was thoughtful. The staff was nice and courteous, and no hint of hating their jobs like you experience at many fast food/quick eating establishments.

Not a long wait time, and cute sitting area. Definitely plan on coming back!

Also, Yelp gave me a digital coupon got- here when I checked it - 15%! That was pretty awesome!

Even though it's 2 degrees outside the hype of rolled ice cream in Iowa city brought us out to Rollipop which just opened a few days ago. A couple friends came here the other day, but didn't have a great experience because their machine broke causing the ice cream to be watery. They showed great customer service and offered a free cup for their next visit.

I love rolled ice cream for the texture so happy to find the texture and toppings were spot on.

What we ordered ranked by tastiness:
1. Matcha mania - good balance of green tea and chocolate. This was my favorite because the matcha wasn't so overwhelming.
2. Smores galore - chocolate flavor was ok, not super rich.
3. Mango tango - not very flavorful. Mango is my favorite fruit so had to try it, but tasted like vanilla with mango topping. However, the mango pieces were fresh and sweet.

Truthfully a 3.5 star experience, but I'm rooting for this place!! I have faith this spot will become super popular once summer rolls around and their workers get more experience.

The ice cream tasted very good--the Money Business in particular. The Nutella and banana flavors were very bold and meshed well together. The Cookie Monster was also very tasty.

The service was average. When I told one of the workers my choice of toppings, he annoyedly responded "I can't hear you". His tone and abruptness came off as pretty rude. I read the sign saying that the machines are loud and you should speak up when ordering, but the frustration of the workers was pretty apparent so maybe the business should try to somehow fix this noise issue.

Otherwise, I had a good experience and will return.

After hearing about this place and looking at their menu and photos, I wasn't super hopeful on how it would be. After coming in and trying it out, it was a bit better than I had anticipated. Good and I may come back again, but not anything super great to share with others about. I'd probably only come with friends who haven't checked it out yet or if we were already in the area and craved some ice cream. Don't think I'd want to make a separate trip out for this place.

I had the monkey business (Nutella and banana) ice cream - basically just a tiny piece of banana and some Nutella chopped up and mixed in with the ice cream. We watched the liquid and fruit form before our eyes to turn into ice cream. Kind of like cold stone except a longer process. The ice cream taste with Nutella and banana was just as anticipated and tasted great. They give you three additional toppings to put on top which is nice, got the nilla wafers (2), graham cracker (to our surprise it wasn't graham cracker crumbs, just one graham cracker), and strawberries.

Taste was good, but nothing terribly different from other ice cream and froyo places. I was a bit weary to try fruit or matcha ones, and heard from the friends I was with that the fruit one didn't really taste like fruit and the matcha ones didn't have much matcha flavor in it, so I think we were right to go with some Nutella!

Presentation-wise, the decor could be a LOT better. I was surprised that even on the second day it was open, the floors were filthy. Understandably, it was a slushy, wintry day, so everyone's wet shoes are trudging in, but it kinda just seemed like a concrete floor that hadn't been cleaned in a while, with dirty and snowy footprints everywhere.

Ok Iowa City, I see you being trendy. I really wanted to like this. But I've had other rolled ice cream and this place just falls a little flat. While I think the concept is there, there needs to be a little more development.

The ice cream was decent. I had the mango tango and it didn't really taste like mango. There was some mango syrup and then three pieces of mango in it. I was really happy with the variety of toppings. You can have up to three toppings, including fresh fruit, candy, Oreos, etc. Each rolled ice cream cup is $6.50.

I also had the matcha mania, and I was asked if I could swap out the Nutella (which is included) for something else. What?!

Ambience: eh. Kinda boring, nothing to look at. I think if there was more branding, you guys could get a ton of more instagrammers. I really think this place become something better, it just needs a bit of work. Workers are really nice!

Water review: N/A kinda weird.

I've been twice and both had yummy experiences! It's fun and unique ice cream. The flavor combinations are tasty and it's nice that you can add toppings! So fun!

My boyfriend and I go here all the time. We absolutely love it. The variety of toppings is great and the flavors are really good. It's really cool that you get to see your ice cream being made fresh right in front of you. This was my first experience with rolled ice cream and I wasn't sure how I would feel about it but I was pleasantly surprised with this place. The only downside is that it takes a while for them to make each one so if they get even a little busy it turns into a very long wait.

Super good!! Bit on the pricey side if you're wanting just simple ice cream but I loved the change and experience! I had the S'mores Galore and it was fantastic. Will definitely go back when I need a special treat.
