Landowski was born in Paris, France, of a Polish refugee father of the January Uprising, and a French mother Julie Vieuxtemps, daughter of Henri Vieuxtemps.
He married Geneviève Nénot in 1907 and had two children, Nadine and Jean-Max, both of whom died in 1943, fighting for their country. Geneviève died in 1912.
