The trimmer A'embodies a main body porconnected at one end'to the body portion5. The mainbody portion 5is preferably formed from a light metal such as aluminum or the like and is preferably constructed from two sections"? and 8 as shown in Figure5 secured 7 together'by screwsorother suitable fastening elements9. The companion pair'ofi'sections 7 and 8 form'the longitudinally divided main body portion5 andare of such shape as to form an elongated shank portion 9having at its rear end theupwardlyoffset and rearwardly' extending handle portion 10.
The longitudinally divided shank portion 9 is provided with a straight bottom edge 11 and has its forwardend beveledandrear-[Q wardly inclined as at 12 defining a guide point 13'at the foremost end of the shank portion; As will be observed'in Figure 4;;

The spacing washer 17 between the forward ends of the shank sections and the shim 18 between the rear-sections of the shank portion provides a thin slot 20 thru the shank 7 portion in which is received the thin cutting blade 16. The cutting blade 16in the example shown is a conventional type of 'double edge safety razor blade and which blades are formed with openings for mounting of the blades in the safety ra holders. It may here be Well to state that the shim washers.

The shank portion 9 is provided at opposite sidesof the blade receiving slot2ti with aligning upwardlyand forwardly inclined keyways 21 for receiving the shank of a clamping bolt 22'which projects thru one of the openings in the blade 16 and has threaded thereon a wingnnt 23 which when turned tight on thebolt 22 firmly clamps the blade in an inclined positionbetween theshank sections. The blade 16 disposed in the slot 20 with its forward cutting edge extending in an upwardly and forwardly inclined relation tothe axis of the shank portion and with the rear edge of the blade spaced closely adjacent the forwardedge of the guide Plate portion 19 of the shim 18. Thebladc 16 of course projects below the bottom edge 11 of the shank portion.

Secured by apressed fit to the central portion of the shaft 50 is a bevel gear 51 -fitting in apocket 52 provided in the inner side of the shank section 48. Fitting also on the shaft 50 in abutting relation with the bevel gear 51is the cutting disc 42 which is held against rotation on. the shaft by means of a preferably round 7 nut 53 having threaded connection upon the shaft. The nut 53 is disposed in a' pocket 54 provided at the inner side of the shank section 44. The gear 51 abuts with the .bush- 48 for preventing"longitudinal shifting of the shaft 50 andretains the cutting disc in alignment at the longitudinal center of the shank portion 45. The cutting disc 42 is of such diameter as to project below the lower edge of the shank portion and extend into the runner 41. It may here be well to state that the r'uner 41 is of identicalconstruction as that of the runner 6 shown and described in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive.

The gear 51 niesheswith-abevel pinion 6O suitably journaled in a bushing 61 thru which a flexible drive shaft 62-extends for connec- 1 tion with the bevel pinion. This fleXible drive shaft 62 extends 'rearwardly thru theldivided handle portion-63 and at the rear end of the handle portion may be suitably connected with a flexible drive shaft64 operated in any desired manner.
This power driven cutting disc will be found especially well adapted for use in cut-' ting soft ipaper'such as blotting paper, news- 7 paper and the like, and will also'be found especially well adapted for cutting .da mplblue print paper,blotting paper, cardboard, tracing cloth,or"any similar thin sheet material.

XVhileboth forms of trimmer A and B are primarily intended, for use in cuttingandl trimming blue prints by merely pushing thev trimmer along a line on which it is desired to sever thepaper, itwill'readily be apparent, V that'thewtrimmers maybe -used for cutting various kinds 'ofsheet material. From the foregoing it willfbe observed thatv an'iimproved construction for paper trlmmers hasbeen disclosed whereby. the paper may be severed on a straight clean cut line-withoutrequiring a straightedge or linealong which athe trimmer may be guided for. producing,
a straight cut. It will also be apparent that with a trimmer such as disclosedy-the paper or other sheet materialissevered thru merely I push ng the device across the paper andpermits-of the paper being 01117111 an easymanner.

A paper trimmer comprising a main body portion including an elongated shank portion having a straight under edge, said shank portion having a beveled forward end forminga guide point at the longitudinal center ofthe shank, a flat guide-plate carried by and depending from the rear portion of the shank, arunner pivotally connected at its rear end to the guide plate and having a straight upper edge for movementinto spaced I parallel relation to the lower straight edge of the shank, and an inclined blade extending between the shank portion and runner at the forward end ofthe guide plate in alignment longitudinally of the trimmer between the guide'point and guide plate.

A paper trimmer comprising a ma1n body portion including. an elongated shank portion having a beveled forward end providing a guide point, a guide plate depending 'from therear portion of the shank portion in alignment longitudinally of theshank with theguide point, a runner pivotally connect-ed at its rear end to the rear portion of the guide plate and extending longitudinally beneath the shank portion, said runner having a tapered forward end projecting beyond the forward end of the shank portion, and a cutting blade carried by the shank portion at the forward end of the guide plate in alignment between the guide point and guide plate.

7 A paper trimmer comprising a main body portion including a shank portion having astraight under edge and a guide point at its forward end at the longitudinal center of the shank portion, a flat guide plate depending from the rear, portion of the shank, an elongated runner pivotally mounted at its rear-end upon the rear portion of the guide plate and having a straight upper edge for confronting relation with the straight under edge ofthe shank portion, means limiting upward swinging movement of the runner toward the shank port-ion to provide a paper receiving guide way, said guide plate when the runner is in operative relation to the shank portion extending into the runner, and
a blade carried by the shank portion at the forward end of the guide plate and extendinginto the runner,said blade being in alignment between the guide point and guide shank portion.
9. A' paper trimmer comprising a main body portion including an elongated shank portion having a vertical slot therethru, a plate depending from the shank portion rearwardly-of the slot, a runner pivotally connected at its rear end to the plate for extending longitudinally beneath the shank portion, a double edge blade extending thru the slot in alignment with the plate and projecting above and below the shank portion, a guard carried by the shank portion and extending about the upper projecting end of the blade, and a clamping bolt extending thru the shank portion for adj ustably and removably retainingthe blade in 'the shank.
10. A paper trimmer comprising a longitudinally divided main body portion including sections forming an elongated shank portion,means connecting the sections in slightly spaced relation, a shim plate connected between the sections at the rear of the shank portion and having a depending portion providing a guide plate, a longitudinally divided runner embodyingseparable sections pivotally connected at their rear portions to the rear portion of the guide plate, and a cutter mounted between the sections of the shank portion in alignment forwardly of the shim and having its lower end extending between the sections of the runner.

A paper trimmer comprising a main body portion including a shank portion and a handle portion, a runner extending longitudinally beneath the shank portion, a thin web connecting the rear portion of the shank to the rear portion ofthe runner and forming a paper receiving guide way between the shank andrunner, a cutting disc rotatably mounted in the shank portion in alignment forwardly of the web, and drive means for rotating the disc embodying a flexible drive shaft extending longitudinaly thru the handle portion.

A paper trimmer comprising a main body portion including a shank portion and a handle portion, a runner extending longitudinally beneath the shank portion, a thin Web connecting the rear portion of the shank to the runner, a shaft rotatable in the shank portion forwardly of the Web, a circular cutting edge afiixed to the shaft and disposed in alignment forwardly of the Web, a bevel gear aifixed to the shaft, a bevel pinion meshing With the bevel gear, said gears being enclosed in a pocket formed in the shank portion, and a flexible drive shaft connected with the bevel pinion and extending rearwardly to the rear end of the handle portion.
