COPS are today probing a suspected terror attack after a "hijacked" lorry rammed into cars in Germany leaving eight people injured, according to reports.
The truck - which was allegedly stolen just moments before - slammed into a line of eight vehicles in the western town of Limburg last night.
Police said eight people were injured plus the driver, who was detained.
The incident is now being treated as a terror attack, according to unnamed sources quoted by Bild.
The suspect is a 32-year-old man from Syria.
He has been in Germany since 2015, according to sources quoted by Frankfurter Neue Presse.
He is said to have been known to cops for petty crime like drug possession and shoplifting but not extremism.
Witness Bettina Yeisley, who works in an office next to the crash site, said she and a colleague rushed outside to find the man sitting under a tree.
She told FNP: "He was bleeding from his nose, his hands were bloody, his pants were torn.
“He said ‘everything hurts me’. I asked what his name is. He told me his name was Mohammed."
The suspect was reportedly detained by a group of joggers when it became apparent he was the one driving the truck.
They described him shouting about "Allah", the newspaper reports.
Prosecutor Ralf Badle declined to comment on the motive on Tuesday saying it was being treated as an attempted murder.
He added: "We can't give specific details about the motive - all possibilities are being investigated."
And cops told German news agency DPA: "We are not ruling anything out."
'DRAGGED FROM LORRY'
The truck was towed away on Tuesday morning and was being examined by police.
Police said the driver apparently commandeered the truck shortly before the crash.
The rightful driver of the lorry told local media how the alleged hijacker dragged him out of the cab as he waited at a red light.
The man allegedly tore open the door of the truck and stared at the driver, as the terrified motorist asked what he wanted, ZDF reports.
He’s quoted as saying: "But he didn't say a word. I asked him again, then he dragged me out of the truck."

The Mayor of Limburg Marius Hahn told DPA: "I am shocked and my thoughts are with the injured accident victims and their families."
Germany has been on high alert in recent years after a string of terror attacks in the country, some involving trucks.
A hijacked lorry ploughed through a packed Christmas market in Berlin in December 2016, killing 12 and injuring more than 70 others.
