Antec P182 case + X-Fi I/O bay clearence? - Solved!

Anyone with a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series soundcard and a P182 Antec case have issue closing the door with the soundcard's I/O drive bay installed? I.e. does the knobs on the I/O drive prevent the door on the P182 case from fully closing?

Sygnus 21, buying a good case with no front panel will solve that issue

Seriously though, I am going to say that you are SOL unless you try fitting the front panel of your X-fi to fit flush with the case... of course, room and manuverability (sp?) will be a problem then.

Are you a good handyman? You may be able to get creative (no pun intented) and make a hole so you can use this panel with the lid close

I hope you find a positive answer for it bud.

As a pure guesstimate, if you can recess the XF-FI panel in a bit (push it back towards the inside of the case instead of fitting it properly), you may be lucky with closing the door.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with the case to say if it would work for sure

Sorry but this doesn't answer my question! I bought this case because of its Aesthetics; punching a hole in the door defeats that purpose!

My question is... will the drive bay fit without hindering the closing of the door??? If not, I'll get the card without the drive bay and rewire the case's front audio headers to work with the soundcard. Creativity without destroying

I think I'll get the card without the I/O bay and do some case rewiring instead. I just wanted the drive mainly for the head phone connectivity/features.

sygnus21, sorry, I didn't mean to make you angry but, you do know my grammar is not that extensive. I don't know the PC case either so I don't know if it would have enough curvature to make this fit properly.

Honestly though, in one of the other forums I visit, I saw a case from a guy that had a similar creative system like yours plus a fan bay plus another thing there and he had them working with the lid closed and it looked extremely good.

Again, I understand this is not what you want, I was just trying to give you ideas since I didn't have an answer for you.

And I don't have the card yet but I decided do get the one without the I/O drive when I do get it. So that's that. I'll still take that link if you have it though.

I tried to think hard where I had seen it since it was a while ago, went back to the history of my FF browser but couldn't find any, but, if I run across the pictures again... I'll be sure to post it.

He did mentioned that all he did was grab the dremmel tool, do some measures and cut away the rectangle he was going to need. Let's just say I am a PC Guru compare to being a handyman so all I did was appreciated the work he had done on it.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. I notice the fan bay with the knobs & toggle switches. I also notice that he can close the door fully. Can't tell how far out those knobs & switches are, but It gives me a good idea about the clearance I was asking about.

Ahhh c'mon... what's the fun in playing it safe?

I have always wanted to get a external sound card but, I rarely use my logitech 5.1 surround system, 90% of the time I use my bluetooth headsets so I figured paying close to 100 bucks for a card is not cost effective.

Have you looked at the link I provided for the card? It's an internal soundcard - PCI Express. You can get it with or without the I/O drive bay. The one with the I/O bay costs $40 dollars more! (Amazon.com). Here's a picture of the one with the I/O bay...

The one with the I/O bay is the "Champion" Series, the one without is the "Professional" Series. WOW :D

I just wanted to get a PCI Express soundcard to replace my X-Fi PCI soundcard and this fills the bill.

Sorry, I ment "External" as in PCI pr PCIe since the one I use is the "Onboard" and I would call that the Internal one.

Yes, I'd figure the I/O bay is like a control panel for the pcie card.
