Item Specifics
Red silky oak (Grevillea banksii) is a tropical shrub or small tree that will grow from 20 to 30 feet tall with a 15 to 20 feet spread. It blooms in spring with bright red flowers that have a feathery or spidery appearance. It has been commonly referred to as the Spider flower as well as the red silky oak, which means feather flower. It is an invasive plant that is considered a noxious weed and will multiply rapidly.

Glorious, deep pink-red, 7” long spidery blooms grace the branch tips of this sultry shrub nearly year-round, attracting hummers & honeybees from near & far. Awesome, long-lasting cut flowers, too! The heaviest bloom time happens Spring through Summer. Beautiful blooms aren’t the only thing going for this Grevillea, its dark green, deeply divided soft foliage is pretty, too! To 9.5’ high & 6.5’ wide, it makes an excellent screen. It’s not picky about soil, but a sure fire way to kill this Proteaceae family member is feeding it with a phosphorus fertilizer. It’s not a heavy feeder, so a bit o’compost should do the trick. Native to Australia
