What educators are saying

Great resource!!! I am using these as homework sheets and sheets in the classroom to reinforce the irregular words of UFLI.

Description

Do you need to give your students extra practice for Irregularly Spelled or Heart Words? The varied practice in these worksheets will help students think about each word several times in different ways: reading, writing, sounds, and using in context with sentences.

Irregularly spelled words may be called “heart words”, “high frequency words”, or “irregular words”. These are words that occur so frequently that they need to be learned before the student has been taught how to decode this word. Some ‘heart’ words will become decodable in later lessons, such as ‘go’, ‘and’, ‘as’. Some ‘heart’ words need to be learned “by heart” if the sounds cannot be decoded according to the phonics sequence being used.

These worksheets may align with the UFLI Scope and Sequence Lessons and may also be used for other systematic synthetic phonics programs that teach irregular/heart words. NOTE: This product is not endorsed by UFLI Foundations nor is it affiliated in any way. No part of this product copies any material found in the manual or the toolbox.

Contents: 122 pages, one page for every irregular/heart word. For the longer words, the separate tracing “write it” and “count it” boxes are not on the worksheet.

Instructions

Students will:

1.read the word

2.trace the word

3.tap out the sounds in the word: use fingers to tap, place counters over the circles or color them in.

4.write the word

5.map the sounds of the word into the elkonin boxes – one sound per box

6.count the sounds in the word

7.use the word in a sentence

NOTE: this is not a stand alone teaching resource. These are practice worksheets designed to be used after explicit teaching instruction that you would use from your phonics program.

What other teacher’s are saying about my other products:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lucky Squares: My students beg me to play this whenever they have a bit of free time!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Honeycomb Race: These are awesome! Such an easy extension from UFLI lessons to use for centers, homework, small groups. I love these!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students love playing the Dots and Boxes game! It provides great practice and reinforcement of the skill we're working on in UFLI. I have extra copies that I keep for fast finishers, so they can play with a classmate.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Capture the Flag: This is a great resource! I love UFLI and having an additional game to practice the sound we are working on is very engaging for my students.
