Use this worksheet with your Spanish 1 or 2 students to practice regular preterite verbs. None of the verbs have stem changes, and they are all common verbs used in simple sentences that end-of-year first-year or second-year students will likely understand. I've included words/phrases that signal that the preterite tense is needed, such as "ayer," "anoche," "esta tarde," etc. This is meant for students who are just learning to use this verb tense and need to practice with common verbs without any stem-changes. This version DOES include vosotros.
The worksheet starts with an explanation of when preterite is used (completed action in the past, action done a certain number of times) with examples. It has two conjugation charts with pronouns for students to write in the endings for -ar and -er/-ir verbs. Then it has two more conjugation charts with pronouns and asks students to conjugate the verbs "hablar" and "comer."
The second page of the worksheet is split into four sections.
-First section has -ar verbs. For example, Cristina _______ (dibujar) por tres horas.
-Second section has -er and -ir verbs. For example, Yo ______ (compartir) el sándwich con mi hermana.
-Third section has -ar, -er, and -ir verbs. For example, ¡El perro _____ (comer) mi almuerzo! and Nosotros _______ (escuchar) la canción cinco veces.
-Fourth section gives students a subject and verb and asks them to write an original sentence.
