Use these multisyllabic word lists to help you as you teach your students to decode 2, 3, 4, and 5 syllable words. Or, use these word lists to help your students practice their multisyllabic word decoding skills / to practice different phonics patterns in larger words.

These word lists would also be helpful in teaching and reviewing the 6 syllable types and practicing syllable division.

There are a total of 864 decodable words, sorted into the following sections:

  • compound words (90 words)
  • 2 syllable words (180 words)
  • 3 syllable words (180 words)
  • 4 syllable words (90 words)
  • 5 syllable words (90 words)
  • words with at least one closed syllable (39 words)
  • words with at least one open syllable (39 words)
  • words with a silent e syllable / CVe (39 words)
  • words with at least one vowel team (39 words)
  • words with at least one r-controlled syllable (39 words)
  • words ending in consonant le (39 words)

There are variety of syllable types in each word list, but each of the words is decodable.

This is a great decodable word list for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students that need extra practice decoding multisyllabic words, or to help make progress monitoring easier for you!
