No. 92 Nemobeta Crowntail

Published in February 2023

An individual with typical Nemo betta coloring. The balance of each fin is beautiful, and it is an individual that can be called a sample of Nemo Betta Crowntail. The opening and balance of the soft rays on the tail fin are truly crown-like.

The Nemo betta has been popular since around 2018, replacing the popular Koi betta, and although it was popular for a time due to its intense colors, its popularity has waned considerably recently.
I have heard from wholesalers that the Japanese aquarium market will start to slow down from around 2022.
The reason for this seems to be that prices have fallen, imports have increased, and lower-grade specimens have become available, leading to people getting tired of them.
Because of its flashy and impressive appearance, it seems that it was easy to get tired of it.

Although its popularity has waned in its home country of Thailand, it is still very popular, and you can often see it in shops.
However, people get tired of seeing it in its old form, so it seems that improvements are being made little by little, such as some with a lemon yellow color.
Due to its high popularity, other varieties with Nemobetta's colors soon appeared, and we have introduced such varieties as W-tail, Veil-tail, and Full Moon in this column.
By the time the plastic cut Nemobeta appeared, Half Moon Nemobeta had already been created, but it was quite expensive and I felt that it was still of low grade to be used as a model for photography, so I pretended not to have seen it. was.

This individual also has a typical Nemo color with a beautiful balance of orange, red, black, and white. The elongated soft rays of each fin, which tend to be unbalanced, are evenly spread out and beautiful.
Nemo betta crowntail with slightly conspicuous white on each fin. In this individual, the soft rays of the caudal fin are further branched near the tip, creating a more beautiful crown-like shape. The black edge of the tail fin also enhances its beauty.

Nowadays, high-grade specimens are available at fairly reasonable prices, so I will be introducing Nemo Betta Halfmoon in this column soon.
As was the case with Japanese carp betta, the crowntail is the slowest to be released to the market compared to other varieties.
There seems to be a reason for this, so I'm thinking of asking for more details the next time I go to a Crowntail breeder I know.

Nemo betta crowntail with impressive white fins. There are few colors on the sides of the body, giving it a rather quiet appearance.
Each fin has a wonderful elongation, making the body feel small. The colors on the sides of the body are beautiful, but there are not many colors on each fin, so it looks a little plain.

In 2021, due to the new coronavirus, travel to Thailand, which had been going on for nearly 30 years, was interrupted.
When I looked at Thailand's betta market in 2022, when travel to Thailand resumed, I saw a small number of Nemo bettas and crowntails.
However, perhaps because it is still not fully developed as a breed, there were many individuals with unbalanced soft rays on their crown tail fins.
However, if you observe the fish carefully, you will be able to select individuals with beautiful fins.
What I would like to introduce here is a photograph of a selected model that was stuck in a fish tank at a shop in the heat of the day.
However, it is very unfortunate that the crowntail is still not very popular in Thailand or Japan.

There are many white parts on the body and each fin, giving it a calm appearance. The shortcoming of this individual is probably that the soft rays on its tail fin have shallow notches. Please keep these points in mind when selecting individuals.
The strong reddish body color and the color balance of each fin, which has a lot of black, give this individual a powerful feel. The spread of the soft rays on each fin is also beautiful. If I were to be greedy, it would be perfect if the soft rays on the tail fin had deeper cuts.

Even in Chatuchak, which has many stores specializing in betta fish, there are only a few shops that stock clowntails, and the number of them in stock is currently low.
Since around last year, veil tails have made a comeback in Thailand, becoming more popular, and the number of shops carrying them is increasing.
With this trend, there are more opportunities to see individuals with new colors.
I would love for Crowntail to follow the same trend.

Both the body and each fin are covered in beautiful Nemo colors. The elongation and opening of each fin are beautifully balanced, making it a specimen of the Nemo Betta Crowntail.
I happened to see a Nemo betta crowntail plastic cut. There is no problem with the color, but the balance of the protruding soft rays on each fin is poor, and it is still an individual in terms of its grade, but I would like to introduce it for reference. It is still a fairly rare variety, so there are few opportunities to see it and it is expensive.

In 2022, in addition to the Nemo Betta Crowntail, the Nemo Betta Crowntail Plakat also appeared, but it was still quite rare and expensive, so it will probably not become widespread.
For your reference, I will only introduce one individual this time.
