Matt Bomer opens up about his children’s futures in acting

Matt Bomer is such a heartthrob that it’s easy to forget he’s also a doting dad of three.

But Bomer seems to want to keep it that way. At least for now. He and his husband Simon Halls have made a joint effort to keep their children, Kit and twins Henry and Walker, out of the spotlight.

At the Hammer Museum’s 13th Annual Gala in the Garden event on Saturday, Bomer told People, “I want them to have a nice, normal childhood.”

He added, “When I was 8 years old, I asked my parents to get me head shots, and they were like, ‘What are you talking about? Go outside and play!’ I’m so glad they did.”

“I had a normal childhood where I was able to cultivate my own creativity,” Bomer explained, “and I don’t think I would have been ready for this crazy business at 8 years old.”

Halls echoed his husband’s statements. “[We go] to art museums [and read] art books. We’ve got a lot of photography books and art books.”

And the couple thinks it’s way too soon to tell if their sons will have an affinity for a Hollywood career. “It’s a little early to say that,” Bomer said when asked if the boys were showing signs that they wanted Hollywood futures.

“All little boys are little hams,” Halls agreed, laughing. “That’s not a genetic thing. It’s a gender thing.”

Meanwhile, Bomer is busy spicing up the screen of American Horror Story: Hotel this season as Lady Gaga‘s hemophiliac partner in crime. No doubt, it’s also too soon for Bomer’s sons to see their father in that light. But we adults are absolutely loving it.

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays on FX.
