      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Manifest's attempts to balance supernatural mystery and melodrama largely work thanks to its well-chosen cast -- though it could use a few more distinguishing characteristics.

Don M Ironic that, as religion rents this planet apart, again, in the Middle East, my 'religion-involved!' spidey senses began to tingle as soon as my spouse and I began to watch this show, 'for her'. I am not a fan of 'science fiction' to begin with but, as an aging man raised by a wanna be 'christian minister', my life's lessons are that religious affiliation bears no merit in science or the evaluation of 'moral conduct'. What we do for love! I cannot wait for this series to be over so that I do NOT need to watch its references to 'divine guidance' that were too sickeningly evident to me from the start of this series. AAARREGHHH! PLEASE nail me to a cross, someone, to take this pain away!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Andrei D Goes too far up its own narrative behind Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review paytonthompson20 Starts out very well. good world building, character introduction, and well thought out story lines. sadly after season 1 it goes downhill Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Stephanie S I watched the whole series. Likes: Family goes through ups and downs and are loyal to each other. Characters grow. It had fun, if confusing, supernatural events. Dislikes: I have to call out the social engineering. The main villain, Angelina, is the only one I remember praying or referring to God very much, and then she does something evil. That is writers trying to engineer us, the audience, into thinking all religion is bad. Don't fall for this trick and point it out when you see it. The unknowable glow is the closest thing to God the others react to. Also, there is a lot of sleeping around. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Jim D Season one really held my interest and was easy to binge watch. It seems odd to say about a fantasy show that requires you to suspend disbelief, but while the Grace/Danny/Ben love triangle is plausible, the daughter feeling she has two "dads" because of a guy she's known for 2.5 years is simply absurd. Completely unbelievable and unrealistic as anyone with a child, divorced or otherwise, can tell you. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Michael A It's Arquette's 'Medium' but with bad writing. Very safe, pass-the-time show. However, if you pay it enough attention you realise how shallow and non-sensical the characters are. Something to watch to pass the time. John Doyle Globe and Mail There's a reason many reviewers found it dull and more plodding than enigmatic. It's a so-so series. As it progresses, the Christian theme is less than subtle. Jul 20, 2021 Full Review Amy Amatangelo Paste Magazine Shows with complex premises need to provide more to be given a comprehensive review. The pilot alone was not enough to make me want to get on board. Rated: 6.8/10 Sep 25, 2018 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller indieWire It's at least worth watching at least one more. Just in case it does happen to be aliens. Rated: B- Sep 25, 2018 Full Review Diane Pershing Malibu Times The cast is great (especially Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas as a brother and sister), the plotting terrific and, while the script and some scenes tend to skew overly teary and sentimental, it all works just fine. Jul 6, 2021 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk They've set enough plates spinning in the air here to make you want to come back for more, but how it'll all develop God - Her again - knows.
