MK6 ESCORT RS2000

-

Back in the day, Ricky drove a late Escort GTi. But in typical 1990s Ford fashion, it suffered from rust that was eventually terminal.

“I always planned to buy another,” says Ricky, “but years later when I had the chance to drive one again it just didn’t feel quite the same. I still wanted an Escort but opted for an RS2000 instead.” His chosen silver example proved quite a find, as other than a questionable exhaust and minor rust issues, he couldn’t fault it.

“I had to replace the sills and rear arches, and fitted a full Swift custom exhaust. It’s amazingly solid underneath,” Ricky points out. As the bodywork only required a minor restoration, it left Ricky able to plough his remaining funds into a few subtle mods. The 2-litre I4 engine now benefits from an aqua-blasted rocker cover and carbon-dipped airbox, while a Weichers strut brace and GAZ coil-overs enhance the RS’s handling. Carbon details, along with Morette LED headlights and anthracite 17 inch sevenspokes, suit the Escort’s lines perfectly.
