UPDATE: The Knicks have signed Sasha Vujacic

Huzzah! Vujacic is back!

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

So like two hours ago I wrote an article stating the Knicks' need for depth at the guard position. I guess Phil Jackson was listening?

First of all...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

...

OK, I'm good.

This move comes as a surprise given that Sasha Vujacic has only played 10 minutes of NBA basketball since 2011. He's familiar with Phil and Derek Fisher from their time together with the Lakers; he also has something of a history with Carmelo Anthony:

I am surprisingly delighted by this move for a number of reasons. Let's break down why Vujacic makes sense for the Knicks:

  1. It's an non-guaranteed training camp deal, per Ian Begley. Minimal risk.
  2. After the Alexey Shved Experience, I insist on having at least one more European guard who is ridiculed and/or despised by the majority of NBA fans.
  3. The Knicks need three-point shooting, and Vujacic is a career 37.1% shooter from behind the arc. A quick glance at his recent European numbers suggests that he also hit roughly 37 percent of his threes during his NBA sabbatical.
  4. He had a decent career as a reserve guard before getting traded to the Nets. It's hard to blame anyone for needing some time to recover from that cesspool.
  5. He's only 31 years old.
  6. Triangle experience!
  7. RINGZZZ!
  8. Remember when former Laker D.J. Mbenga was in camp last year? That was fun!
  9. TACOS!!!
  10. Again, check out the list of available free agent guards. It's ghastly.
  11. So I say welcome to New York, Sasha Vujacic, you beautiful bastard. You might not make it to opening night, but I'm sure I will enjoy our time together.

    Update:

So apparently this is, in fact, a guaranteed deal:

That's much less funny...though still kind of funny.
