It’s hard to imagine a mother figure in any other light than, well, a mother. However, they are fully formed humans, and there’s more to them than what might meet the eye. But in Pieces of Her, not only is Andy Oliver (Bella Heathcote) reeling from a shooting, but she also sees her mother, Laura Oliver (Toni Collette), in a brand new light because of it. Andy doesn’t know what to make of her mom’s quick reaction to the shooting, and her insistence that Andy leave town quickly. It soon becomes clear to Andy that her mother has a complicated past and isn’t who she portrays herself to be. While Collette and Heathcote lead this thriller, there’s a whole cast that fleshes out the mystery of Laura’s past.
Toni Collette (Laura Oliver)
Toni Collette plays Laura Oliver, a mom who works as a speech therapist in a tiny Georgian town. When her daughter’s life is threatened, she leaps to action in a swift and deadly manner that points to a less-than-boring past. And a past that can now harm her daughter.
Collette is known for many roles, her earliest and most notable being The Sixth Sense and Little Miss Sunshine. She’s appeared in such Netflix titles as Velvet Buzzsaw and Unbelievable, receiving Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for the latter. Collette’s most buzzworthy projects include playing Joni Thrombey in Knives Out and another mother full of surprises, Annie, in Hereditary.
Bella Heathcote (Andy Oliver)
Bella Heathcote plays Andy Oliver, Laura’s daughter. After a life-changing event, she realizes that her mother might not be the person she claims to be. This discovery now colors every single bit of Andy’s life — and in dangerous ways. Like Collette, Heathcote hails from Australia. She’s been in several notable projects, playing Jane Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, to portraying the real-life Olive Byrne in Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.

Omari Hardwick (Gordon Oliver)
Omari Hardwick portrays Gordon Oliver, Laura’s ex-husband. Gordon is somewhat privy to his former spouse’s unordinary past. Hardwick is best known for playing James “Ghost” St. Patrick on the series Power, but he’s also featured in such titles as Army of the Dead, Saved and Miracle at St. Anna, not to mention Kick-Ass and For Colored Girls.

Jacob Scipio (Mike Vargas)
Jacob Scipio portrayed villain Armando in Bad Boys for Life opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. His history playing shady characters comes in handy for his role of Mike Vargas. Mike’s presence is a bit threatening in the beginning, but he might not be the bad guy his first impression gives off. Outside of Pieces of Her, Scipio is set to appear in the upcoming Batgirl movie as well as The Expendables 4.

David Wenham (Jasper Queller)
Thanks to his pharmaceutical business, Jasper Queller is a billionaire. David Wenham plays this rising political player, yet when the shooting happens that impacts Laura and Andy, Jasper’s manicured facade starts to crumble. Wenham is best known for playing Faramir in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He’s also had notable roles in Van Helsing, 300 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Gil Birmingham (Charlie Bass)
Gil Birmingham plays Charlie Bass, a family friend of the Olivers who is more than what Laura leads Andy to believe. Twihards will recognize Birmingham as Billy Black, Jacob’s dad. After appearing in the entire Twilight Saga, he went on to play Martin in 2017’s Wind River and is currently portraying Tribal Chairman Thomas Rainwater in the series Yellowstone.

Jessica Barden (Jane Queller)
Jane Queller is Jasper’s sister and a talented concert pianist. However, she lives a sheltered life due to their overprotective father, Martin Queller. She befriends her brother Andrew’s roommate, Nick, who becomes very important to her. Jessica Barden has appeared in The Lobster, portrayed Sophie in 2011’s Hanna and starred as Alyssa in The End of the F***ing World.

Joe Dempsie (Nick Harp)
Nick Harp appears in two timelines in Pieces of Her. The younger version of Nick is portrayed by Joe Dempsie. This is when he first meets Jane. He’s also very interested in bringing down everything Martin Queller — and by extension Jasper — stands for. Fans of the legendary series Game of Thrones will recognize him as Gendry, Robert Baratheon’s bastard son. His work as Chris in the UK series Skins is also high up on the list of what viewers might have seen him in.

Aaron Jeffery (Nick Harp)
Aaron Jeffery plays the present-day version of Nick, but it’s unclear what his story is now. As Pieces of Her progresses, his arc unfolds along with Laura’s. Jeffery is a New Zealand actor who’s noted for playing Terry Watson in Water Rats and Matt “Fletch” Fletcher in Wentworth. For fans of the X-Men movies, Jeffery played Thomas Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
