Two great things here which say it all: this is a blended whisky that will appeal to single malt snobs. Some peated whiskies don't stand up to the claim; this will not disappoint. Famous for their iconic flattened black bottles, sourced originally from Germany before the First World War, this old whisky blender the biggest blender in the world has created another highly pleasurable sipping whisky. There are some truly unique and surprising things here. It comes at a generous ABV of 46.30% and is non-chill filtered. It's a mix of peated malts and unpeated grains which mellow somewhat the smokiness, allowing you to stay on your feet. Now regarding complaints. You will not complain about the robustness of its peatiness. It hasn't been prettified. You get a complex sweetness with all the notes of a great peaty whisky. This is a highly enjoyable whisky, a social sipper coming at a very reasonable price. Signatory selects particular distillations or batches from the independent distilleries. Signatory tastes every barrel and selects only the finest casks within each batch and bottles only one cask at a time. Every bottle of Signatory has characteristics that resemble the unique flavor, color, and age profile of a single cask. The release is no exception. After trying to marry lots of different casks together and ending up with lots of lovely whisky – it is incredibly satisfying when you find a marriage that just works better than others. This release is the result of a perfect union between single malts matured in Bourbon casks & Oloroso casks. The process of taking cask samples and marrying them together in the glass is not fast, and when you finally get a winner, it is prudent to leave it in the glass for some time to see how it will develop. This whisky just got better and better. The end result is a single malt whisky, limited to just 2,100 bottles, that is a joy to drink."
