Orchidaceae

6-Pseudobulbs

[FMP-field: image]

In many orchids, the stem is modified into a pseudobulb, from which the leaves arise. Sometimes, only one leaf is produced from a pseudobulb, while in other instances several leaves emerge from a pseudobulb. The orchid is Laelia majalis, and this is a detail from a drawing in J. Bateman, The Orchidaceae of Mexico and Guatemala, published in London, 1843.
