Consulting enologist Stéphane Derenoncourt makes close to 70 wines in Bordeaux at the moment. One of his favorites, obviously, is his own: Domaine de L’A from Cotes de Castillon. Another is a wine made from ancient vines from the property of Beausejour in the appellation of Montagne St. Emilion. I tasted (sipped) these two wines at his house today after a long tasting of 2010 barrel samples. The 2004 Domaine de L’A is much better than I remember, with coffee and dark fruits. It’s straight and racy. Why wait? 90 points. The 2005 Beausejour 1901 Montange St. Emilion is a little rustic and chewy with mineral and meat. Full and powerful. So much going on. Crazy stuff. 92 points.
