Absynt (SK)

Absynt is a publishing house dedicated to literature for the 21st century. It all began as a joke: “In a multinational construction company in Krakow, a Pole and a Slovak met, united by their passion for good books.” This eventually led to the establishment of a book publishing company that is now among the best-known and best-regarded in Slovakia. Thanks to its distinctive covers sealed with colored tape, it probably also ranks as one of the most recognizable ones on the domestic literary scene.

Absynt strives to guide curious and daring people through the chaos of today’s fast-paced world. They publish books primarily focusing on events in contemporary history from various parts of the world, travelogues, and literary reportage. In their catalog, you can also find novels, essays, and books for children and young adults.

Absynt was founded by Filip Ostrowski Juraj Koudela. They kindly responded to our call to participate in JAMA 77 by donating books to the local library in Banská Belá.

Filip has also accepted an invitation to participate in a discussion on reportage literature and its publishing in Slovakia on this occasion, which will be part of the JAMA 77 off-program.
