Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar' is a cultivar of Stromanthe sanguinea Sond. The upper leaf surface of this very decorative plant is a glossy green, but it is also irregularly feathered with creamy white markings. Underneath however, the leaves are a bright raspberry pink, so the overall effect is very colourful - particularly as the new leaves emerge in a tight scroll before gradually unfurling.
Genus name comes form Greek stroma meaning a bed and anthos meaning a flower in reference to the form of the inflorescence. Specific epithet comes form Latin sanguineus meaning red in reference to the red flower bracts and leaf undersides.
