The word originates from the Prakrit word ‘Sadi’, which itself was coined from a Sanskrit word ‘Sati’, meaning a strip of cloth. This evolved into ‘Sari’, which is the most common way to call this garment.

Many sources suggest that saris go as far back as 5,000 years. Some of the sari-like costumes have been spotted on sculptures from 100 BC. Even old paintings and murals have women wearing this traditional piece. They sure have seen history like no other. Isn’t that amazing?
