Chelsea youngster Ben Sahar will make his Israel debut at the tender age of 17 against Ukraine in an international friendly on Wednesday evening.
The ineligibility of Nigerian-born Toto Tamuz - set to receive clearance to represent the country in Euro 2008 qualifiers next month - suspension of Roberto Colautti and injury to Yaniv Barda have handed Sahar the chance to become the youngest player to be capped by Israel.
"It is a big challenge for me to play with the senior team," he told Haaretz. "I am very excited and surprised.
"I didn't expect to receive the call-up from [Israel coach] Dror Kashtan."
Team captain Yossi Benayoun gave the striker his backing.
"Without a doubt Ben Sahar is extremely talented and I am sure he will succeed."
