This outdoor Kukri knife means business. The full tang blade is forged from high carbon steel and is sharpened for all of your outdoor needs. The textured finish not only looks cool, but also helps keep the blade from rusting as well as keeping the blade from looking roughed up after use. The tang is sandwiched in between 2 thick mounts made from Sheesham Heartwood and stained a gorgeous red brown. The end of the handle is larger for hammering in tent steaks. A kukri serves as an excellent companion for hunting trips because it not only makes an excellent hunting knife, but it also functions as a multi-purpose tool. It can be used for a variety of tasks, including cutting, slashing, chopping, hammering, slicing, shoveling, etc. When not in use, you can store your kukri away in the included high-quality brown leather sheath, complete with belt loop and antiqued brass snap closure. This knife comes well oiled - and it is recommended to polish the knife from time to time with a mineral oil to prevent rusting or corrosion.

-Use mineral spirits and a cloth or paper towels to remove all of the grease or oil.

-Make sure the armor is dry, then apply a coat of wax to the entire surface (Renaissance Wax is recommended, which can be purchased on Amazon). To get the hard to reach corners, you can use a Q-tip. Don't worry if the wax covers the leather straps and fittings - this can even be beneficial!

-Let the wax dry for several hours.

-Buff the armor lightly with a soft cloth.

The key to keep the armor from rusting is to keep it DRY. To achieve this:

-Keep your armor stored in a dry place.

-Check the pieces every couple of months for signs of rust - if any rust is found, remove it by rubbing the area gently with a dishwashing scrubber (the green side!)(Cont.)

-If the armor does get wet, dry it as soon as possible, as thoroughly as possible.

Each time you wear your armor:

Caring for your drinking horn starts with keeping it clean!

A few things you must pay attention to ensure you preserve your drinking horn for many years:

Hand wash your drinking horn after each use using warm water
Cleanse it with a soft towel immediately after hand washing. Polish w/ vegetable oil.
From time to time you will want to use beeswax to coat the inside to keep from cracking and the inside drying out.

If you have a sealed and coated drinking horn, simply use warm (not hot) water and a mild cloth to cleanse it. Rinse and towel dry immediately to get rid of the moisture.

Make sure to clean your drinking horn immediately after drinking from it, or else the acidic contents of the drink may breakdown the protective safe sealing.

Things to AVOID when caring for your drinking horn:

Avoid cleaning them in dishwashers
Do not use them in microwaves
Do not use it for hot liquids (unless it is specifically designed for this)
Avoid contact with strong solvents, detergents, and chemicals
Keep them out of extreme temperatures and avoid severe temperature swings
Avoid using sharp objects as they can scratch and spoil the surface of your horn

Drinking horn care is not as difficult as you think. Once you know what to do, and what not to do, drinking horn care becomes an easy routine!

1. Soak the pan in a mild soap/hot water solution for about 1 hr to remove oil added to protect the pan during storage/transit. You may use abrasive sponge to scrub the pan, but avoid steel wool.
2. Wipe your pan down with a paper towel or dish linen, then set on stove over medium heat until all moisture has evaporated.
3. Apply a light coat of oil evenly across the pan to season. (Canola, vegetable, grapeseed, sunflower, or safflower recommended). Keep rubbing & buffing oil into pan until no longer looks greasy.
4. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. bake pan in oven 45 mins-1hr, then turn off oven and let pan bake another 15 minutes.
5. To secure seasoning, you can opt to repeat steps 3 & 4 again to create a more solid layer of protection.
