Capcom has witnessed enormous success recently with its Resident Evil games. Mostly all of the releases in the last six years have received phenomenal responses from the fans. Not to mention that they have performed exceedingly well in terms of sales too.
So it only makes sense for the publisher to continue this blockbuster horror franchise by delivering more hits. At the moment, hardcore fans are waiting to hear about the next major offering. Speculations have suggested that it might be none other than Resident Evil 9. Moreover, several rumors have indicated that it might bring back known faces like Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield when it comes to the character roaster. However, the makers will need to take a very precise decision in terms of choosing the protagonist for this entry. It needs to be someone who is yet to receive a standalone story of her own.

Since the dawn of RE saga, Jill has been an integral part of numerous titles in Capcom’s horror franchise. 1996’s original game was the first one to introduce her, alongside Chris Redfield, in a two-player Campaign. To begin with, she was the original face of the series before Leon and then Chris took over to share this role between themselves.

Although Jill Valentine has appeared in 9 Resident Evil titles, as of 2023, she’s yet to find her spot as the leading character. After 1999’s RE3: Nemesis (original one, not the remake), she’s been mostly limited to brief appearances in many entries. Yes, she still remains a key part of the franchise but her role has been restricted since RE5 and 2012’s Revelations. 2020’s remake of RE3 was actually her first opportunity to shine in two decades. When it comes to comparison, Leon and Chris have been there in most of the recent games from Capcom.

Just like Leon and Chris, and even Claire, Jill is extremely popular among the Resident Evil fans. In fact, she’s now become an iconic character as well, thanks to her return in RE3 Remake. Even players of the current generation, who didn’t know her previously, are now familiar with her existence in the lore of the long-running franchise.
Being a very likable character in the saga, Jill Valentine deserves a chance to shine fully. She can easily do that, in all her glory, in a game where she takes the centerstage; Resident Evil 9 could be that game.
