I have both an acoustic drum kit and the DD 65. I do a lot of recording and the electronic drum kit sound is almost like the acoustic and it is much easier to record. I like all of the the sounds except for the snare. But they Yamaha has different snare sounds so I changed the default to another snare sound that I like better. I have also used the kit with MT Power Drum Kit computer software and it works well too. Mt Power Drum Kit is free but you should make a donation for this great software tool.

Out of the box it performs like a nice attempt at making a digital toy into pro equipment. It has the same bugs in it, Yamaha can't think of a way of improving the play surface and that's the toy side and what makes these things end up as dust collectors. It is no fun trying to get the required fundamentals out of something that isn't capable of matching the real thing. I took mine completely apart looking to solve all the problems and I finally did. I found that replacing the small stock trigger sensors helped this thing a lot, the rest was finding a solution to isolate the pads and still keep it in one piece. The pedals that it comes with should be thrown away. The HI-HAT is not so bad but you must get a KP-65 KICK TOWER AND DECENT PEDAL !!! I actually recorded with this thing and it sounds like real drums to some degree. Once you fix the bugs it is a rocking usable piece of music equipment. It needs a pre amp out also it is weak in volume.Read full review

Haven’t explored it fully, but the DD65 is what i was hoping for - something to satisfy my young child’S desire for a drum set (while also being of good enough quality for me to play now and then when i want to mess around on drums. A real kit won’t fly in our apartment building unfortunately, and i’m not spending the $ for a legit e-drum kit, so this is the next best thing. Works for me, works for my boy!

This thing sounds good for the price, the only thing is the kick drum volume is a little weak, alot weak, otherwise easy to use and straightforward, good sounds! 50 kits.

Overall design is great. Only bad part is stock pedal, which is a foot switch. It's workable but could be perfect if went with full pedal like KP-65.
