The Starr Arms Company of Binghampton and Yonkers, New York, made the double action Army revolver in the late 1850 and early 1860's with a total quantity of about 23,000. The double action of the Starr revolver is unique in that there are essentially two triggers. The large front trigger rotates and locks the cylinder and at the end of its travel depresses the rear trigger which allows the hammer to fall. Grips are one piece European walnut with a satin finish. All metal parts are of steel and blued. .44 caliber with 6" tapered round barrel. Barrel is rifled with 7 lands and grooves with are .005 inches deep and have a twist rate of 1 turn in 30 inches. The front sight is dove tailed on the barrel and rear sight ingrooved on the hammer nose. Uses #11 size cap. Recommended load is 22 grains FFFg powder, .454 round ball, with a .44 revolver wad. Original style markings are located on either side of the frame. Made in Italy by Pietta. THIS PRODUCT CANNOT BE SHIPPED TO NEW JERSEY OR CANADA.

I found the Starr DA revolver to be an excellent reproduction. However the double action in a precussion revolver is unique. Found it to be a bit stiff at first and being accustomed to single action with thumb and forefinger to lower the hammer the Starr requires getting use to.

The Starr DA Army Revolver is a well balanced finely made piece of machinery......well made and accurate in almost every detail.

This is a fine revolver with a very fine finish! I have an original and I think the old ones were charcaol blued but the finish is very nice for these modern models. The only tricky part was the double-action. My original is more firm but it took me a few minutes to get accustomed to it. I could tighten the spring but I won't as it is likely to tighten as fired. I am going to get a nice for this one. I got lucky to have curly walnut grips that match and curly walnut is rare so I lucked out. I hope Dixie doesn't drop this fine revolver since many can't get fully accustomed to the double action. This belongs in any arms collection whether a repro or not. I am sure this will be sweet to fire. The rifling is very pronounced. Thanks Dixie!

I was able to send this revolver back to DGW and their gunsmith did/does a terrific job. They changed out the mainspring and now it fires nearly 100% of the time! I had also contacted. F.L. Pietta and they sent me a new mainspring. The problem is the mainspring. Thanks Dixie for your prompt gunsmithing! www.californiacavalry.us

I didn't get my Starr DA from Dixie but bought it used from a fellow shooter. he bought it from Dixie though. I feel compeled to write this to let all who are considering buying the Starr DA to do so! This is a well made and well functioning replica. I have not had the main spring or other problems reported by others. On caps though I do find that # 11s work much better than the # 10s some people have reproted to have to use. Like the LeMat Pietta has donr themselfs proud with this replica even if they did release it too early before the \"bugs\"" had been worked out on the early production pieces. If you are even remotely thinking about buying one do it in case they decide to stop production."
