The Night Agent was a huge success on Netflix in 2023. The series, based on the 2019 novel by Matthew Quirk, debuted at number 1 on the English TV List in March. According to Deadline, it was "the third-best Season 1 premiere week of viewing for any Netflix original." So Netflix made the unusual move to renew it almost immediately after its release.

The season 1 finale found Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) taking off on a jet for his first official mission as a night agent, a position that will find him directly serving the President. Exactly what that means (and how his new position will impact Peter's relationship with Silicon Valley CEO Rose Larkin [Luciane Buchanan], remains to be seen in season 2. According to show runner Shawn Ryan, "What does Peter getting on this plane and going somewhere (presumably overseas to enter into some new wild adventure) mean, with Rose going back to California to try to pursue her Silicon Valley dreams again? We certainly have some initial ideas."

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the new episodes, but the season 2 teaser promises a 2024 return. Here's what we do know: Basso and Buchanan will both reprise their roles, and we can expect to see some new faces. Netflix has confirmed that Amanda Warren (The Leftovers, East New York) is joining the cast as Catherine, a veteran agent who will train Peter.

Seeing that the series is based on a book, you might be looking to that source material for season 2 plot hints. But Matthew Quirk's novel is a stand-alone, so we'll have to wait and see what the writers come up with!
