Shepard Fairey offers Northside new mural

Artist Shepard Fairey works on a mural in Silverton, one of many that will be situated throughout the Tri-State sponsored by CAC.

Northside building owner Victor Williams was in mourning Saturday when a "treasure" in his neighborhood was defaced.

A mural created by renown artist Shepard Fairey was painted over early Saturday morning, leaving Williams and the rest of the Northside community angry.

Instead of refinishing the mural, Williams said his building will be adorned with something new.

"A friend of Shepard Fairey contacted him about the damage and he has agreed to do another mural for us," Williams wrote in an email to The Enquirer.

The mural depicting Aung San Suu Kyi – covering the west wall of the building at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Blue Rock Street – was part of a 2010 exhibition in which Fairey created 16 murals around Greater Cincinnati.

Details of when Fairey plans to return to Northside are unknown, but The Enquirer will update this story as more information becomes available.
