August 13, 2023 - Pronounced nose of roses, iodine, tobacco, red cherry, earth, ash, twis of orange peel. On the palate, full bodied and medium+ acid with long finish. High tannin but ripe and soft. This is drinking excellently now but I'd say this is closer to the end of its prime drinking window than the start. You could argue it's lacking a little fruit intensity in the mid-palate to balance the high-tannin but personally that doesn't bother me - outstanding.

April 17, 2019 - 91. Well...proper treatment of wine makes a difference. Out of 375. Wine stood up for a while. A lot of chunky and fine sediment left in decant. I think this wine is much better after a few hours of air. This is the second bottle to shed a lot of sediment so be wary about decanting, and be sure to give this at least two hours of air. 91+.
After 30 min air: 89-90
Nose: Cinnamon , Rose, liquored cherry, Rosewood
Palate: rosewood, ripe black cherry, some red strawberry silky mouth feel with medium body, light/not overly extracted mouthfeel - although you know this had oak.
Structure: sweetish tannin that are still a little puckering, cinnamon sweet heat, mildly burning that goes away on your second glass. Long finish with vanilla, cinnamon and cherry.
After 2.5 hour air: 91-92
Palate becomes less oak and more stony black cherry and blackberry, with mild salinity. The finish is more clean, with very drying tannin still sweet but with less over ripeness, vanilla, and heat (all elements still present). -

February 18, 2019 - Out of 375ml. Decanted once and immediately drank (unfair I know). A large boat load of sediment left in the bottle and coffee filter. Nose of dark rose, wood, vanilla, a little port smell. Palate of similar with a little burnt sugar. A little cinnamon heat on the finish. A little alcohol.
89-90. But perhaps a 90-91. Have another bottle to give a whirl. -

January 20, 2019 - 375ML.
Decanted for 6 hours and then served at cellar temperature. Beautiful rustic garnet color. Tannins were silky smooth and integrated into the wine. Acidity was still present and the wine felt fresh indicated plenty of life left to develop. Characteristics of rose, tar, leather, and fading sour cherry/tart cranberry were present. Complex wine paired with a coal fired pizza made this a pleasant dinner with the family. -

October 8, 2016 - Ready to drink with soft tannins, leather, cedar, dried cherry, and a nice finish. Old world in style.
