Note: This piece was sold to the proprietor of www.militaryrifles.com. I like to shoot my rifles, and the buyer likes to collect them. I'm getting a nice. readily shootable Danish Rolling Block, he gets a rather scarce model in very good external shape for his collection. Both of us end up happy!

M1864-68 Swedish Rolling Block

12.7x44R

 I bought this at a OGCA show for what I thought was a steal for $350. Upon examination at home (Lesson learned: Examine closely before I buy.)I found two problems. The breechblock is setup for a rimfire round. The second problem is that someone had apparently attempted to rechamber the gun from the original 12.4mm round.  Now, to return the rifle to shooting condition, I may have to have the chamber reamed and sleeved, then rechambered to .50-70.  Still, for a Remingon Rolling Block in such fine shape otherwise, the total cost is still reasonable.

I'd first misidentified this as a M1867 Swedish Rolling Block. Then a fellow collector (Thanks Dutchman!) put me in contact with some swedish sources that set me straight. This is a conversion of the M1864 Swedish Chamber Loading Rifle (similar to a Trapdoor Springfield). This is rather unusual to find in its current form, inasmuch as most were converted to carbines later on.

I am searching for a bayonet appropriate for this model.

This particular one was made in 1869 (3 digit serial #) by Carl Gustaf in Sweden.

The inscription on the butt means:

IK= Ingenjorskaren

KPB= Kungliga Pontonierbataljonen

Engineers

Royal Pontoon Battalion

This unit existed from 1867 thru 1892
