About the Author
Ilene Strizver is the founder of The Type Studio in Westport, Connecticut. She writes and teaches extensively on typography. During her career, she has been creative and produc- tion director of U&lc magazine, as well as director of typeface development at International Typeface Corporation (ITC) in New York City, where she developed more than 300 text and display typefaces with respected type designers such as Sumner Stone, Erik Spiekermann, Jill Bell, Jim Parkinson, and the late Phill Grimshaw. In addition to penning the popular TypeTalk column for creativepro.com, Ilene is a featured contributor to the Fontology series for fonts.com.

About the author
Ilene Strizver, founder of The Type Studio [www.thetypestudio.com], is a typographic consultant, designer, writer and educator specializing in all aspect of visual communication, from the æsthetic to the technical. Ilene has written and lectured extensively on type and typographic design to both students and professionals in the field.
Ilene formerly was the Director of Typeface Development for International Typeface Corporation (ITC) where she developed more than 300 text and display typefaces with such respected and world-renowned type designers as Sumner Stone, Erik Spiekermann, Jill Bell, Jim Parkinson, Tim Donaldson, and the late Phill Grimshaw. She “cut her typographic teeth” by working on Upper and Lowercase (U&lc) and other type projects with such legendary icons as Ed Benguiat, Aaron Burns and Herb Lubalin.
Her clients included International Typeface Corporation (ITC), Monotype Imaging, Linotype, Adobe, Galápagos Design Group, Harlequin Books, Somerset Entertainment, Integrated Marketing, Parents Magazine, MeadWestvaco, Nationwide Insurance, Life is good, Inc., Alliance Atlantis, Johnson & Johnson, Haband, Nassau Guardian, and b-there.com. Ilene has written for HOW, Dynamic Graphics, STEP Inside, and DesignEdge. She also writes the popular column, fy(t)i For Your Typographic Information, which can be found on fonts.com, as well as a biweekly blog entitled TypeTalk for creativepro.com.
Her book, Type Rules! The Designers Guide to Professional Typography, 2nd edition (3rd in the works), has received numerous accolades from the type and design community. She conducts her widely acclaimed Gourmet Typography Workshops internationally.
