This product is actually chunky! Wasn't expecting much since almost 90% of the "chunky" perlite I've gotten in the past tend to be dust or pebble. Not too upset about it since perlite crushes so early, but this was a pleasant surprise. As seen in photos, it's big and chunky. Haven't noticed any dust or pebble sizes yet, but based on the top layer, I'm happy with what I got. It still has a lot of dust though, so make sure you mask up when using.

I wasn’t expecting vermiculite to be SO GORGEOUS!! It looks like fools gold or something. And this box is FULL! I’ve already covered almost all the plants, seedlings, etc in my house and I have barely made a dent. It’s no where near as dusty as perlite and they’re pretty small pieces.

I finally gave in and bought some after a 2 month long battle with fungus gnats (on my 4th soil treatment with mosquito bits) and I’m hoping that with that and now a top layer of vermiculite it will finally get rid of these little buggers!!!

Also got it to hopefully stop damping off since my seedling success rate has only been like 10%.

So I’m basically covering all the soil in my house lol. It sucks cause I like seeing the soil so I can see if it’s dry and watch any new sprouts coming up and just keep an eye on them but with how beautiful this vermiculite is, it definitely is a worthy trade off!!!

Perfectly chunky & a new holy grail for me

I bought 17quarts of the large chunky perlite and I will absolutely purchase again. I have a lot of aroids and tropical plants that need a chunky, well draining soil and had previously been using orchid bark and small perlite. That worked fine, but not great. This chunky perlite is the magical ingredient to help my plants thrive. I was a little hesitant because it’s pricier than normal, small perlite but very much worth it.

My soil recipe that I use for all plants is;
3 parts coco coir
1 part orchid bark
1 part small perlite
1 - 2 parts large perlite (this stuff)

Optional: worm castings, vermiculite

Lots of reviews mentioned packaging and they were right but it wasn’t an issue for me. Comes in a large plastic trash bag and I just poured into a glass container. It’s dusty but that’s true with all perlite. I don’t think it should stop someone from purchasing.

This is not perlite. It is not nearly as airy or light as perlite, and it is not crushed easily. Whatever it is, it's quite dense and can't be crushed with your fingers like perlite can be. A few other plant-obsessed folks and I agree that it may (may!) be pumice stone. If you prefer pumice vs. perlite this may still work for you, but for my purposes it wasn't it.
