A Comprehensive Look at Human Interaction

Human Communication in Society takes an enhanced look at the relationship between humans and their societies through a contemporary critical lens. By examining history and societal structures as a means to assess modes of human communication, the text helps readers to understand the theory and context of the way people interact. The Fourth Edition uses new examples, illustrations, and pedagogical materials to highlight the importance of understanding multiple perceptions when studying communication. By addressing vital forms of communication such as listening, responding, verbal/non-verbal communication, and perception, Human Communication in Society addresses the subject of interpersonal interaction from a holistic standpoint.

Also available with MyCommunicationLab

My time with this book was measured not by time but instead by the number of dents in my desk from my head. I found that repeated head trauma transformed the book from the most boring thing imaginable to a thought provoking, interesting read. Head trauma is simply a must. If you find yourself dreading your time with this book, don’t. Aside from the occasional nose bleed, this is truly life changing.

I'm glad I rented it for class. Since my class was only 8 weeks I had a little extra time to return it. Our online tests were open book so it really helped. Good stuff in it but not a necessity for communication 110

In all fairness, I’m only 5 chapters in. I’ve given up on really taking my time to read the book because everything presented thus far is pretty common knowledge. That said, the information that is presented is easy to understand - my 6th grader could read it with no trouble. The thing that really bothers me is the vast amount of typos and missing words. It breaks my focus every time I come across one. I can’t believe they published it like this...

Do not rent this as an eTextbook! It wouldn't allow me to read the textbook using my computer, and when I tried to use the Kindle app on my android phone, I found that it doesn't read like a kindle book. It basically shows a screenshot of each page as the pages of the book, so you have to take the time to zoom in and scroll perfectly down each line to read it--very time-consuming and frustrating! There are much better ebook versions out there, choose one of those or a hard copy. Luckily Amazon's support team responded very quickly and offered me a refund for the textbook order so that I could get a hard copy instead.
