NOT EASY TO BUILD
3 Stars
NOT EASY TO BUILD
This Remote Control Raptor Pickup F-150 w/Mecanum Wheels 1417pcs, Compatible with Lego Technic came decently packaged in a branded cardboard box. The pieces were in numbered bags, 1 thru 6, very similar to Lego, with two large bags having no number. The sticker sheet was inside the instruction manual to keep it from getting ruined. This was NOT EASY TO BUILD, mostly because of the instructions, but other issues too. Some of the pieces were very difficult to put together because the tolerances were so tight, and will be very difficult to pull apart later. The pin fittings were fairly consistent, some were tighter like technic sets used to be years ago. Most of the axle fittings were consistently loose, but still functional. Some parts had a little moulding flash on them, but not very many and easy to remove. The instructions jumped around too much sometimes, making simple steps very confusing. The pictures were sometimes too small to tell where/how assemblies went together. This set is basically a copy of Set 42126 retrofitted with motorized components and different wheels/tires to simplify steering. The attempt to maintain the function of the mock engine pistons using a differential in the rear was a complete failure. Because of the suspension movement, it simply pulls the U-joint out every time it compresses in the rear. I left this piece out once I realized it would never work. The U-joint came in 3 pieces, unlike Lego, and was very difficult to assemble the tiny components. Taking the entire differential assembly out allows the truck to function better and lessen the battery drain. I was very pleased that all of the pieces were there, and the main functions via the Mecanum wheels work well. The controller and receiver/power unit are very different from any Lego ones I've seen. There is some variable speed control in all directions, but the right control stick does nothing, it isn't needed. Pushing the control stick all the way in a direction makes it slow down for some reason. The top left/right buttons make it spin in place, and it does that very well. Forward, reverse, and left/right spin works on carpet, but the trucks other steering functions don't work well on carpet. I'm not sure how I feel about Ford, Lego, and Mecanum all being used in this product that is likely not licensed, but patent law is not my forte. Lastly, the battery life sucks. I wish it was set up to take standard AA or AAA batteries so I could swap out my rechargables when it dies. Smooth driving surfaces help prolong the battery life a lot. This is an awesome set for the price, no missing pieces with the majority being good quality parts. I have built many large Technic sets over the years and this one was more difficult due to the instructions and some tight fitting parts.

My kid has gotten frustrated with this and set it aside for the end of school activities. I have no doubt he'll resume it in the summer as he's still excited about it. It's mostly a combination of the instructions and the fit. Some of the steps are just not clear and as you get further into the build, the diagram of what's been built looks like an ugly jumble.
Sometimes he has a hard time getting the pieces together, they seem to fit more tightly than usual. But of course he wants to get through it himself rather than having to ask for help all the time.
The roller wheels are neat - we have these on a non-Lego remote control car and they're a lot of fun. IT's a clever way to add steering to this model. And the truck is shaping up to look nice.
I do have some qualms about this being a near exact replica of an existing Lego set. The changes being the wheels and the motorization of it. I didn't know that Lego had made a set like this when I ordered it.
The motors are nice, everything works. It'll certainly be fun to see him try them on another build of his own design. I expected the remote to be pretty cheap and it's not as bad as I thought. There are plenty of stud and technic-style connectors on it so you can build it into something bigger. You can even add to the joysticks.
Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good value for the motors, remote, roller wheels, and a large build.

We were very pleased with how easy the instructions were for our 7 year old son to follow. It's easy to use and he's happy playing with it.

Embarking on the Uncle Brick Raptor Pickup F-150 Remote Control Car kit was an adventure in itself. With 1417 pieces, it promised hours of immersive building and play, perfect for adults and Lego-loving kids alike. However, the journey had its bumps.

While the concept and potential of the kit were undeniably exciting, the execution left something to be desired. The directions provided were not as clear as expected, leading to moments of frustration and confusion. Some steps felt vague, requiring extra time to decipher and understand.

Adding to the challenge, I encountered a disappointing issue: missing pieces. Despite carefully sorting through the contents, there were notable absences that halted progress and dampened the overall experience. It was disheartening to come across this obstacle in what was supposed to be a seamless building process.

However, perseverance prevailed, and with some improvisation and patience, I managed to complete the construction. The end result—a remote control car with mecanum wheels, compatible with Lego Technic—was undeniably impressive. Its functionality and design make it an excellent gift for boys aged 8-12 who enjoy STEM toys and building projects.

In conclusion, while the Uncle Brick Raptor Pickup F-150 Remote Control Car kit offers an engaging building experience, be prepared to navigate through unclear directions and the possibility of missing pieces. With determination and creativity, the final product is sure to bring joy and excitement to builders of all ages.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
It’s easy to follow the instruction manual and find bricks, as the bags are clearly labeled. The quality of the bricks are not too bad. They fit together well, although a little on the loose side. There are a lot of baby steps with small parts, so overall it took me longer to finish than expected. I get frustrated a couple of times: 1. The axle after the differential keeps popping off. 2. There are pegs that you need to insert while holding from the other side, otherwise they will get pushed out. This is a fast car due to the gear ratio they used. The remote control works great, and the joysticks are analog, which means you can control the speed. The Mecanum wheel controls are iffy though. I would expect buttons for moving diagonally and sideways, but no. You basically use the left joystick to control forward/backward, left/right turns, and right joystick to stop a single wheel from rotating. You may still be able to do that by reverse certain axes, and/or a combination of left/right joysticks, but it’s not right out of the box. Oh, and I really like the stickers with kit and they are the best ones I have ever seen. Overall I like this set, but there is a lot of room to improve too.
