Product Description

Brandt is the # 1 manufacturer of Zwieback worldwide. Zwieback is a crispy, sweetened bread made with eggs and baked twice. It is sliced before it is baked for the second time, which then results in a crispy, brittle slice that closely resembles melba toast or rusk. Although commonly used for teething children, it also makes a nice breakfast snack which one can use with butter, cream cheese, jelly and peanut butter for example. Medicinally, Zwieback is very good for upset stomachs, as it absorbs acid. The Brandt Zwieback has a 99% name recognition in Germany; even more than Coke!

I've been testing out rusks as of late and wanted to see what was available. Rusk bread baked three times - once to rise, once to crisp up the crust, and then once after it has been sliced to crisp up the rest. This is a mild rusk - very mild sweetness, very mild saltiness, mostly tasting like toast. Some may find it to be too mild, it is maybe one step up from a unsalted saltine in terms of flavor. It takes butter well, and dips okay, though it doesn't have much body. It is lightly crunchy - easy to bite into and chew down.

I thought it was okay, pretty good. Nice late night snack. But I don't think I'd get this specific rusk again, I'd try to find something a little more savory or salty next time. I'd recommend it as an introduction to the food type, though.
