These are the best supports ever for a sprained ankle, in my opinion. They give a lot of support and don't allow your ankle to bend side to side. I have very weak ankles and get frequent sprains. I started wearing these to play pickleball and feel much safer and have been injury free. I travel a lot and never leave home without a pair of these in my suitcase. Many years ago, an orthopedic doctor gave me a pair, when I had a very painful sprain. I have been using them ever since. This was a replacement for one that finally was wearing out.

The Aircast brace is lightweight, comfortable, and very supportive. I found the boot provided by my doctor’s office to be too heavy and painful - I’m so glad I got this instead. It’s fully adjustable so I’m able to get the right amount of support for narrow feet and ankles without any discomfort. It’s great to be able to start walking again after a sprained ankle without worrying about reinjury.

Literally a life saver. After I fractured my fibula on my first day of college in NYC I was given the direction that I could do weight bearing as tolerated. For the first two weeks I rented a knee scooter which I also highly recommend. However, the two boots given to me made the pain excruciating and even harder to walk with the crutches once I was able to put some weight on it. They were heavy and bulky and put to much pressure on my broken bone. This however provided the perfect support and fit well in my tennis shoe. I wore this for the first two months before graduating onto an ace bandage. If you have an aligned fractured fibula and the boot isn't working, this is what you need! My doctor approved of it. As for the negative reviews, I do think wearing it with the right shoe and getting the correct size is the cause for any discomfort.

I paid close to 100 for one for each ankle due to fractures. Does not fit even after following measurements. Waste of money because I cannot return or exchange. I’m a double ankle fracture so I have to order from Amazon because I cannot drive

Good support for a sprain but not particularly comfortable to wear. They would do better in a sports shoe than in a dressy shoe. Unlike in the illustration, wearers are advised to wear absorbent socks under the brace. The air sacs are plastic so skin immediately against them can't breathe. Amount of air in sac is adjustable (read directions, and don't lose the inflation/deflation tube that's included but not attached) but it may take experimentation (and time!) to find the right adjustment to fit comfortably. Shouldn't be worn in airplanes due to air pressure change affecting the sac size, but it would be awkward to have to put on and off to hurry through an airport ... and what to do with it if you aren't wearing it onboard?! They're designed and marked for left or right but seem to be interchangeable if you adjust the stirrup appropriately and adjust air pressure in the sacs accordingly.

The Air-Stirrup definitely provides stability and support for my sprained ankle. I am wearing it indoors as much as possible.

I am editing this, because I previously wrote that it was impossible to get a shoe on when wearing the AirCast. We subsequently discovered that a small adjustment allows me to pull the cast up far enough that I can get my foot into a sneaker and even some sandals. Now that I've figured this out, I can wear it both inside and outside. I think it will be helpful on an upcoming trip.

One "con" is that the instructions are written in a .5 size font, fine for teenagers, not so much for over-forties.

For getting around the house for a few days until my ankle (I hope) improves, it's a good solution, and not terribly pricey.

I had a severe left ankle sprain over 20 years ago. My doctor prescribed this Aircast. I have had to wear it on and off over the years because my ankle is permanently weakened. I also sprained my right ankle several years ago. As a result I needed an air cast as well. I wanted to purchase the same kind. I found it. It is not meant to be used with sandals, but with sneakers it works wonderfully. Any cast that must be warm will always be slightly uncomfortable. But it does work at immobilizing my ankles providing the support I need. I did adjust the heel width and it’s perfect. Thank you Amazon and Aircast.

I was looking for something with more substance for my sprain. There’s minimal gel in the bottom half. The plastic digs into my leg even with a sock. It is designed for wither foot which I believe contributes ro the uncomfortable fit. My foot did fit in the shoe with this, which was was convenient. It just did not give me the comfort and stability I was seeking. I went with one that is made for the foot with the sprain.

This was recommended to me by my physio following rolling my ankle causing a hairline fracture and a particularly bad sprain.

As part of my job I go over fields and uneven terrain.
I needed to get back to work before it was fully healed so I've used this for stabilisation. It still allows the forward and backward flexing of my foot, but prevents the sideways rolling I'm now prone to until my ankle is fully healed.

It's also adjustable to suit different widths of feet and the air pockets are also adjustable, allowing air to the increased or deceased.

I've worn this with trainers for gym work and boots for work with no issues.
