It is considered, together with Lémery s Pharmacopée universelle - one of the most authoritative pharmacopoeia of 18th-century Europe - as one if the two complementary works which form Lémery s chief contributions to pharmacy. This "fourth edition" is probably the third pirate edition published in the Netherlands. The original French edition had appeared in Paris in 1698 by Laurent d Houry; the second in 1714. The "real" third edition would appear in 1723 in Paris, also by D Houry. A translation into Dutch appeared in 1743 in Rotterdam by J.D. Beman.Head of spine restored.
