Oblong folio. 1 text plate + 20 loose plates. Housed in a new modern off-white heavy stock paper portfolio. Striking illustrated multicolor cutout from the front cover of the original portfolio has been pasted onto the front of the new portfolio. This work is a collection of 20 lithographic plates of illustrations depicting the German occupation of Warsaw during the First World War, by Polish artist Jozef Rapacki (1971-1929). The images, printed in brown on tan paper, document the restrictions and hardships visited upon the residents of the city during the occupation, including military checks and various types of interrogations. The title plate includes publication information and an index of plates. Each image is captioned in a printed cursive typography in Polish. Text in Polish throughout. Front cover image with some light staining and smudges. Plates throughout with sporadic creasing and/or closed tears along edges as well as minor to light stains and smudges. All plates throughout partially hand-colored by a previous owner, with some others containing minor markings in pencil (including hand-numbering at the top right corners). The first plate contains light markings to the image in blue pen., and a smal tear along the upper left edge. Title plate with some holes along the left edge. Portfolio in very good+, interior in good- to good condition overall. Portfolio protected in modern mylar. Extremely scarce. Seller Inventory # 48392
