Fairey Swordfish; 1/72 DZI (ex-Novo, ex-FROG)

Post by vacant »

I was given this kit several weeks ago. It is a Russian version of the original 1973 FROG kit. It was formerly on sale from dealer with the label 99P stating that the kit had no canopy! It needed a few improvements. For its age and origin, it is a splendidly moulded kit and the second FROG Swordfish I have built. That makes 10 Swordfish models kin my collection. Enough is enough.

Colours and markings are for an aircraft serving in Egypt in 1942, The combination of sky grey and duck egg green (on the fin/rudder and undercarriage) is decidedly odd. It came from Extradedcal sheet X72108.

The kits definitely captures the look of the aircraft. A nice build and interesting oddity in the scheme.

Bloody brilliant, Fred! Very smartly turned out.
No canopy! Arrrgh! What to do?!
(This is one of the very few biplanes I have attempted).

Cheers,

David

Very nice. The FROG kit is quite respectable.

Your Frog Swordfish is exactly as I remember it: a beautiful model that well relies the lines of the real plane. My comliments.

Looks great and you'd never notice the canopy is missing! :-D

Another first class build. The old Frog offering was good in its time and in your hands looks even better. Interesting and very different scheme.

A fellow modeller noted that this aircraft had a barbed exhaust pipe. That made me look again. Unfortunately, the aircraft for which the decals were made had a shorter unbarbed exhaust. I thought I could live with the error, but while ignorance is bliss, knowing that something is wrong is unbearable. The result is that I have removed the exhaust and replaced it with the proper one.

Superb V,it was allegedly the most accurate 1/72 Stringbag prior to Airfix's new kit.
You could see him thinking "Bleedin'pilots, don't know nuffin. All glammer" He's probably right.
