The Voice Needs to Give Adam Levine a Season (or Two) Off — Here’s Why

Let’s get one thing straight upfront: I’ve got nothing against The Voice’s Adam Levine. I’ve been attempting to sing Maroon 5 songs in the shower since “Harder to Breathe.” I only wish I was cool enough to pull off the I-just-grabbed-this-out-of-the-laundry-hamper look that he favors. And I’ve really admired some of the contestants that he’s coached on NBC‘s talent show (especially Season 13’s Addison Agen).
But it’s time for Levine to take a break for a season or two, and here’s why: He lost a lot of face with the audience when he championed Reagan Strange over DeAndre Nico during Season 15. (Click here if you’ve managed to forget that debacle.) As a result — or at least partially as a result — not a single member of his team this season was voted through to the Finals — or, for that matter, the Semifinals. So he spent the last couple of weeks as a well-compensated seat filler!
Levine also didn’t seem to be all that into it this season. Though he had fun ribbing frenemy Blake Shelton (as he always does) and goofing around with Battles adviser Charlie Puth, he appeared to be as invested in the proceedings as we might be when listening to a Blind Auditioner who’s only exciting enough to get a one-chair turn.
So I say give Levine some time off. He’s already on board for Season 17, but after that, bench him. Put Puth or Panic! At the Disco’s Brendan Urie in his seat, let us forget Reagangate and then bring Levine back fired up and ready to score his fourth victory. What do you think, Voice fans? the idea of Brendon Urie from Panic at the Disco is awesome, he has the charisma and seems entertaining for a how like this. i will say that for me Adam and Blake need a time off, cause while the other rotating coaches like Jennifer, Shakira, Usher, Pharrel, etc. have always bring someting new, the Levine Shelton on and off love hate as got old… they are still good, but lets face it, The Voice as never really been about the contestant, no one has become a big name, its about the coaches. so it may be a good change
Couldn’t agree more. Switching Adam and Blake off would also level things out, fairness wise, for the other coaches who constantly have to compete against their 184849284 combined wins.
BLAKE? He is a very nice guy so why would you want him off the show! HE IS AS REAL AS CAN BE!!!
I’m not a fan of country music, so I only watch the try-outs (or whatever it is called). The little game between Adam and Blake is juvenile. Blake seems to care more about the success and quality of the show, but he’s so country I still would not watch. Adam needs some time off to see how much he misses being there. Kelly is wonderful and I liked Jennifer Hudson, too.

Wellllll God Bless the USA was an example of Conservatism. No one remarked on the message of the song they remarked on his subpar performance which was true.
Adam wasn’t jealous of Blake, he realized that Maelyn should win. So he backed her.

Blake is the one that needs a break. His contestants are voted through just because he is their coach and it doesn’t matter about talent. It should be changed to Blake’s vote. I like Blake but it almost ruined the season for me. Thank goodness the best singer won in the end. Most of the show is just a coaches popularity contest.

Your reasoning tells you why he won’t or shouldn’t be taken off. He has a big following, and people like him. I realize you are giving your opinion in regards to talent, but the powers that be are going to keep the guy with the big following. I know I would.
That being said, I will agree Gyth placing 2nd over Dexter’s 3rd place was a mystery to me, but I think it was due to the media created controversy of Kelly and John’s critique of “Proud to Be an American” to be what pushed Gyth forward.
Agree on Dexter better than Gyth about using his voice but for me what redeem Gyth is his original song “Proof İ Always Loved You”. İt was really good song, also he is co-writer to the song and he did perfectly.

Please!! I pegged Gyth as the runner up in the finale 4-5 weeks ago. Not because he performed “Proud to be an American”, but because he has a reasonably good voice and he’s got the same vibe/look as a lot of current country artists. That’s what got him 2nd place over Dexter. the coaches are there to critique. To call it was they see it. I think Kelly and John were sincere. It wasn’t a political response to Gyth pandering. He just wasn’t all that great. Sorry!
Absolutely! Give Blake a rest and everything else will fall into place. The Blake Show as it is is hemorrhaging viewers every season. That should be a clue to TPTB that the only people left are the Blake fans and they aren’t enough by themselves to keep the ratings up. TV shows are like sharks. They have to keep moving forward or they die. And Blake’s version of The Voice is one dead shark.
The best singer did not win the voice. That girl has only one skill. Thats singing a gospel whaling that is so generic. The other 3 performed and sang a variety of styles and genres. The last 3 seasons have been a joke.

Your the one that has to be kidding! Nobody wants to hear that tiresome slow tempo crap everytime they perform. You knew exactly what she would sing, some lame ass slow song trying to be dramatic. She couldn’t sing an uptempo song and her original was horrible. The only hike about the season was she won.
Music is personal taste. However if you think she did not deserve to win with perfect pitch and stage presence that knocked everyone else out of the running, look at the streaming numbers.

I agree. This isn’t supposed to be a popularity contest between coaches or one particular style of music. It’s supposed to showcase the best VOICE that is able to sing all kinds of music. I believe Maelynn was the correct winner. If this country singing only with Blake knocking out better singers continues, I’ll stop watching and I believe others will too. Blake has a large following as does Gwen Stephani and they can garner a large voter base. How is this fair to the singers? Either keep on topic or change the shows name. Also the changes made to the show didn’t help. Go back to original format. Instead of having guest stars helping coaches with their team, why not have them judge the battles blindly without knowing who they are or what team they represent? Or something like that so it gives real talent the recognition it deserves instead of personal preference for a music genre or particular coach???

I totally agree with the idea that Adam Levine should leave the show, not for a season or two but permanently. His heart is not in it any more. He is a sore looser and his “pseudo” or real animosity against Blake is annoying. He does not care about his team until he realizes that those well deserving contestants are going to be out, and then he starts a pathetic imploring for a chance for them, when it is too late. IT DOES NOT WORK!!! Your time in this program is UP!! You are a very good musician but a lousy coach! Kelly and John are really good and extremely classy, and Blake is very successful and real. It is obvious the care and on point advise he gives his team members. PLEASEEEE FIND ANOTHER COACH!!!
Please tell us more about your up-close-and-personal knowledge of Adam Levine’s personality and motives.
I think that not only we need to give Adam a break, but also Blake a break as well! The show should bring back Christina, Alicia, and Usher and bring on Garth Brooks as coaches for a few seasons. Xtina (who has performed alongside Elton, Phil Collins, the Rolling Stones, etc) would be perfect for Adam’s replacement (pop/rock), while Garth Brooks not only represent the country music world..but also adds a new figure head to the cast of coaches-the music industry’s elder statesman. Both Sir Tom Jones and Boy George have done well with ‘The Voice UK’ and ‘The Voice Australia’ respectively. Also, these four would be able to bring the show back to the contestants!
I agree. Blake and Adam both need to ride off into the sunset for a few cycles. The show will be energized to have a new configuration of coaches and I, personally, would love to see a judging panel comprised of all women.

I’ve only watched one season, but is he going to be anyone’s first choice as a coach if he’s not the only one who turns around? Seems like this team will consist of one chair turns and steals. Has anyone won a season with a steal or a singer who only got one coach to turn their chair? I think he needs a break then
He actually had a number of four chair turns this season, so you worry for no reason. It’s that the viewers mostly skew country, which has made the show unwatchable to me. The format this year was terrible, and unless Adam stays and they make the show more diverse, better representing a wide range of genres, i’m done with it.
Ok. Again, since this is my first time watching the show, I wasn’t sure how much strategy people use when they pick a coach. It looks like he hasn’t won since 2015, and hasn’t had a team member make it to the finale since 2017, so I don’t know if he’s just suddenly really unpopular or a really bad coach.
Blake has won with a steal, he stole a country singer a few years back from Gwen.
He also has become so self absorbed & is not a good sport being supportive of anyone not on his team when things aren’t going well for his interest. His whole personality became so glum when he didn’t get any contestants voted into the semi finals & finals. I even fast forward through segments showing him talking. He totally turns me off, where as I have always been a huge Maroon 5 fan. Now I cringe @ just the thought, let alone sight of him!
Adam has probably been beyond frustratedly with the viewers constantly voting his super talented people off. People of color are also consistently sent home even when they are the superior singers. Has a black woman ever won? Viewers ruining the chances of great talent because they hold a grudge against Adam is petty and shortsighted. The Voice shouldn’t let “america” vote until the finale.
Yes definitely. He’s just pissed at all times. His back and forth with Blake has really worn out. He look like someone has force him to sit there. BUT Brendon Urie is way too talented to be in the show.
After his stunt last fall cyclesm, he should have sat this last cycle.

I agree with you 100%, I like Adam but what he did last year was very unprofessional, and as you, I noticed this year he was very quiet, I thought he was intimidated by John Legend

I’m tired of the show anyway. It’s always Blake anyway. The good singers are voted off. It’s a sham show now. Just like American Idol. I’m done. I’m happy for John Legend. But I’m done with the show. It has become Country Western. Ugh

I think he mostly fixed himself for Reagangate. This year he could have chosen between mari and LB as both were in the save but did the right thing and remained neutral. I’d say give him this season, to see if the audience has forgiven him (I really believe they feel for him losing all his artists for no reason). If not get rid of him permanently! ALSO If this season has taught us anything is that we need to get rid of Blake. He has way too big a fanbase. It makes the competition not fun at all. They need to pick a less liked country coach. Get rid of Blake ASAP (permanently)

It shouldn’t matter who the coach is, on the voice. People should be voting for the actual VOICE. So what difference does it make if Adam stays as coach or not. Unless your saying the show should be called the Coach?
I think it’s time for Blake to take a break. John legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam’s teams were much more talented than Blake Shelton’s team. It’s quite obvious fans were voting for Blake Shelton and not the best singers. It’s suppose to be The Voice not The Coach.
