Description

Iron, maru-gata, image of rays emanating outward from the center, with motif of daki-myŌga crest (two ginger plants) at the top and bottom.

Owari style, typically described as a “rays” or “gear” or “clock” motif. Recent research from Fred Geyer suggests the strong possibility that this motif represents the mark of the Jesuit society, and that these tsuba may indicate a connection to the early Christian converts in Japan. One of the great collectors, Masayuki Sasano also claims these designs show Christian influence.

Christianity was later outlawed by the Tokugawa government, and Christian converts were persecuted. Some chose to hide their faith (the “hidden Christians”).

No. Its solely private sale of collection and once paid for the item, I do not accept returns. Please judge from the pictures, which are made with my best effort. Actually you can expect the item to look even better in hand than pictured. I will gladly send you more pictures if desired. Just let me know.

    Do you buy or trade?
In general no. I am only selling out from the inventory of old long-time collection and dont buy new items for the purpose of re-stock and selling. in rare cases it can happen that I am open to trades, if there is something that I really, really like and wish to keep. And on the condition we can make a mutual and fair agreement, that we both are happy with.
