The Colt Model 1911 pistol has been in use by military and law enforcement for over 100 years. It originated back in the 1890's as they were trying to create a self-loading or semi-automatic pistol. John Browning continued submitting to his designs to the US Army until it was finally adopted .The Colt Model 1911 was approved by the US Secretary of War in March of 1911.

It has seen use through WWI, WW2, and is still in use today by US Army Special Ops, SWAT teams, and US Marine SOC. There are many other countries that either use or reproduce the 1911 includung Brazil, Canada, China, Philippines, and Turkey.

I purchased this pistol as part of a unit deal while I was deployed to Iraq about 10 years ago. It was made by Para Ordnance and seems to be of good build quality. It is marked with unit symbols and the operation we supported. I never got around to finding a good holster for this pistol so I decided to complete my LBE with a M1916 replica.

The holster attaches to the older and modern style USGI pistol belt with a brass hook that locks into the webbing of the belt. With a canteen and a mag pouch on the other side of the belt, it should balance the weight well. The flap on the holster will help protect against the elements and keep the pistol safe from falling out.

With all leather products that will be used outside I like to apply a good coat of mineral oil to keep them flexible and water-repellent. I coated it well last night and wiped it off this morning. Every so often it's a good idea to check your leather scabbards and holsters and apply a thin coat of oil.

I wish I could afford a genuine issue holster, but they are hard to come by and very expensive. Replicas are often made and weathered to appear genuine but are not. At $30, it was good deal and appears to be well made. The pistol fits pretty snugly and will stay very secure on the belt.

Thanks for reading, and if you'd like any more info on the pistol, holster, or anything else let me know.
