A Sailing Adventure

Loviste, Peljesac

The next morning, the wind was blowing from the north east again and it was getting quite rough in Sucuraj harbour, so we left. We sailed with the wind behind and two reefs in the genoa for a bit, then the wind eased as we got away from the narrowest part of the channel. The islands certainly make some interesting wind conditions! As we rounded the tip of the Peljesac peninsula, the wind picked up again, so we dived into Uvala Luka, a large bay with a small village called Loviste. It was nice and sheltered from the sea although quite challenging picking up a buoy in the wind! When the harbourmaster came to collect the fee he said we could either pay him 250 kuna (£30) or go ashore and eat in one of the restaurants. As a meal out with wine is normally about £30, we took the second option and went for a nice meal!

While in the restaurant, which was two paces from where we landed in the dinghy, we watched the harbourmaster and a diver putting out additional buoys. The blocks were already there, he just had to tie on 15 m of rope and the buoy. Yachts were still coming in and seemed to pick up the new buoys as fast as he laid them.
