Parley has joined forces with internationally renowned Brazilian artist Vik Muniz to release a limited edition photography print – entitled Paisagem – to support the work of our Global Cleanup Network

Inspired by an original photograph of Guanabara-Bay in Rio de Janeiro, the artwork is assembled from thousands of bits and pieces of plastic debris, composed in the form of a mosaic-like relief, and measures over 1000 square feet. Vik Muniz's reinterpretation of the famous bay repurposes discarded materials for their aesthetic qualities and confronts us with one of the most fundamental challenges we are facing today: marine plastic pollution.

All proceeds from Paisagem will support beach cleanups and educational projects in Brazil, highlighting the beauty and fragility of our oceans and the urgency to protect them. Parley for the Oceans operates the largest global cleanup alliance to end marine plastic pollution, having worked in 30 countries with over 250,000 volunteers. Parley Brazil works across the country on marine plastic interception, remote island cleanups, environmental education and oil spill remediation.

Muniz's Paisagem advocates for the protection of this landmark bay, using plastic debris to create the artist's signature compositions that come together in the stunning photograph.

The artwork was released earlier this month at Parley Portugal’s kickoff event in collaboration with The Rui Freire - Fine Art gallery. The event showcased Vik Muniz’s work alongside another Parley artist and collaborator, Katharina Grosse. The show presented, for the first time at the gallery, works by these artists as well as works created in collaboration with Parley. The exhibition is part of the creation of the permanent representation of the Parley Foundation in Portugal and of the close, collaborative relationship we have had with the gallery, since 2019.
