I bought these during a period in my makeup-life where I was more concerned with price than with quality.

Packaging

These lipsticks are my least favourite out of all the lipsticks in my collection when it comes to packaging. The product does not twist up smoothly at all, one of the caps came off in my purse, and one of the lipsticks broke all of a sudden. For some reason the product keeps smudging on the inside of the packaging, and it just ends up looking really gross. And they don’t have flat tops, so I can’t store them upside down in my listick organizer. I prefer to have my lipsticks upside down so I can se the label and shade name.

Swatches

Application and wear

The lipsticks themselves are okay, when it comes to pigmentation and staying power.  They have a creamy finish, and a slighlty waxy consistency.

Scent

They smell slightly fruity..? And kinda like kid’s cheap costume makeup.

Price

They are very affordable, but like I’ve written in some of my other reviews, even if an item is cheap, it could still not be “worth it” if you’re not going to use it. I can’t remember what I paid, sorry I don’t remember if I bought them from the british website, the norwegian website, or Ebay…

Bonus, Elf Matte Lip Colour

I also have one of the Studio Matte Lip Colors. The texture was nice, and I liked the precision you get with the small pencil like tip, BUT this also broke, and the product just falls right out of the tube if I hold it upside down.

Last thoughts

I would not recommend them. The packaging is just too awful. And my favourite (Posh) shade broke. I guess I could still use it, but I just don’t reach for it anymore, because I had to be really careful so that the lipstick wouldn’t fall out of the tube. After purchasing more lipsticks and have more to compare them to, I have realized that the consistency of the Elf essential lipsticks is too waxy for my taste. I also never felt comfortable wearing most of these shades, even though the colours are very muted. I guess they were the wrong undertone for me.

I actually destashed all of them, after taking pictures of the packaging and arm swatches.

If you swatch them, and feel confident that you’ll like the colour and consistency they are alright affordable lipsticks. But then again, they break really easily, and I dislike not feeling comfortable putting them in my purse. It’s difficult to use and wear if I can’t bring it with me so that I can re-apply during the day.
