Lance Piantaggini, B.A., M.A.T.

Lance is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Teacher Education and School Improvement (TESI) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a research focus on grading. He spent 10 years in the classroom, most recently as the Lead Latin Teacher and Equitable Grading Coordinator of Springfield Honors Academy, a public high school in Massachusetts.

Lance taught Latin by making it more comprehensible through compelling texts, and is the author of over 30 novellas used in hundreds of Latin programs across the world. This blog focuses on second language acquisition (SLA), grading & assessing, and offers support for comprehension-based and communicative language teaching (CCLT). Lance has presented what he’s blogged at the local, state, regional, and national level, both to language teachers and educators of all content areas.

Lance is a USA Archery Level 3 Coach, an Instructor Trainer, and a Level 1 Judge who enjoys rhythms, cooking, reading non-fiction, analyzing data to prove his points, and designing marching band shows.
