Il progetto di Mail Art (arte postale)
“ARTE DEL RICAMO UCRAINO” è stato organizzato tra luglio 2022 e il 22 gennaio 2023 dall’associazione ECHORAMA APS-ETS, con lo scopo di essere un invito a scoprire, celebrare e preservare il patrimonio dell'Arte del Ricamo Ucraino, quale prezioso simbolo dell'identitàculturale del popoloucraino, in grave pericolo a causa della guerra di invasione russa.
In risposta alle esortazioni dell’Unesco, che più volte nel corso del conflitto ha sottolineato la necessità di proteggere i patrimoni culturali dell’Umanità, questo progetto artistico vuole essere un piccolo contributo a preservare la memoria dell’esistenza di questa parte del patrimonio identitario della nazione ucraina, diffondendone la bellezza, la ricchezza e l’importanza nel Mondo, affinché la sua esistenza e quella dello spirito ucraino non possano essere cancellate.
Al progetto hanno aderito 124 artisti,

di ogni età e livello o abilità, provenienti da 24 Paesi del Mondo, che si sono espressi sul tema “Arte del Ricamo Ucraino”, realizzando le 153 opere presentate in questo catalogo, opere che interpretano e celebrano quest’arte attraverso tecniche, materiali e stili espressivi diversi.
Oltre che in questo catalogo, le opere pervenute sono pubblicate nel blog vyshyvankamailart.wordpress.com un archivio online che diventa fonte di testimonianza e memoria permanente.
A talescopo, nel blog sonopresenti anche links, informazioni e riferimenti utili a scoprire e conoscere l’Arte del ricamo ucraino, sia come fonte di ispirazione che come approfondimento.
Il progetto è stato promosso con il patrocinio della Regione Piemonte, della Provincia di Alessandria e del Comune della Città di Casale Monferrato.

INTRODUCTION
The Mail Art project “UKRAINIAN EMBROIDERY ART” was organized between july 2022 and January 2023 by the ECHORAMA APS-ETS association with the aim of being an invitation to discover, celebrate and preserve the heritage of the Ukrainian Embroidery Art, as a precious symbol of the cultural identity of the Ukrainian people, in grave danger due to the Russian invasion war.
In response to the exhortations of UNESCO, which repeatedly underlined during the conflict the need to protect thecultural heritages of Humanity, this artistic project aims to be a small contribution to preserving the memory of the existence of this part of the identity heritage of the Ukrainian nation, spreading its beauty, richness and importance in the world, so that its existence and that of the Ukrainian spirit cannot be erased.
124 artists of all ages and levels or abi
lities from 24 Countries of the World joined the project, who expressed themselves on the theme "Ukrainian Embroidery Art", creating the 153 works presented in this catalog, that interpret and celebrate this art through different techniques, materials and expressive styles.
In addition to this catalogue, the works received are published on the blog vyshyvankamailart.wordpress.com an online archive that becomes a source of testimony and permanent memory.
For this purpose, the blog also contains links, information and references useful for discovering and learning about the art of Ukrainian embroidery, both as a source of inspiration and as a study. The project was promoted with the patronage of the Regione Piemonte, the Provincia di Alessandria and the Municipality of the Città di Casale Monferrato.

L’ARTE DEL RICAMO UCRAINO
L'arte del ricamo ucraino ha origini antichissime, lecui radici risalgonoall'era neolitica.
Il ricamo ucraino non è solo una creazione artistica di particolare bellezza e maestria, ma anche un importante patrimonio culturale di credenze, costumi, rituali e aspirazioni spirituali del popolo ucraino.
Patrimonio ricco di profondi significati nascosti, attraverso il ricamo il popolo ucraino per secoli ha trasmesso veri e propri messaggi, espressioni della propria energia interiore, dei propri pensieri e umori, della bellezza dell'ambiente, delle speranze per un futuro migliore e delle proprie aspirazioni.
Il ricamo è infatti considerato magia e mistero, un modo per trasmettere la propria disposizione e la propria energia interiore codificando segni e simboli sui tessuti.
I motivi del ricamo ucraino rappresentano infatti specifiche simbologie, scritte con ago e filo.
Emblema del ricamo ucraino è la Vyshyvanka, la camicia ricamata dei costumi nazionali ucraini.
L'etimologia della parola "vyshyvka" deriva da "vyshniy" (divino/celeste) che viene tradotta come il "cosmo" greco.
Con i suoi ricami simbolici, la vyshyvanka è spesso ritenuta addirittura un talismano, una protezione per la persona che la indossa.
Simbolo dell'anima ucraina stessa, in onoredi questocapotradizionale ènato il “Vyshyvanka Day", celebrato ogni 3° giovedì di maggio, una festa internazionale che diffonde l'idea dell'identità ucraina nel mondo, rende popolare la cultura e le tradizioni ucraine, e aiuta la formazione della coscienza nazionale ucraina, alimentando il patriottismo e l'unità del popolo ucraino

UKRAINIAN EMBROIDERY ART
The art of Ukrainian embroidery has very ancient origins, the roots of which go back to the Neolithic era.
Ukrainian embroidery is not only an artistic creation of particular beauty and craftsmanship, but also an important cultural heritage of beliefs, customs, rituals and spiritual aspirations of the Ukrainian people.
Heritage rich in deep hidden meanings, through embroidery the Ukrainian people for centuries have transmitted real messages, expressions of their inner energy, of their thoughts and moods, of the beauty of the environment, of the hopes for a better future and of their aspirations.
Embroidery is infact consideredmagic and mystery, a way to convey one's disposition and inner energy by codifying signs and symbols on fabrics. In fact, the motifs of Ukrainian embroidery represent specific symbols, writ-
ten with needle and thread. Emblem of Ukrainian embroidery is the Vyshyvanka, the embroidered shirt of Ukrainian national costumes. The etymology of the word "vyshyvka" comes from "vyshniy" (divine/celestial) which is translated as the Greek "cosmos".
With its symbolic embroidery, the vyshyvanka is often even considered a talisman, a protection for the person who wears it.
Symbol of the Ukrainian soul itself, "Vyshyvanka Day" was born in honor of this traditional garment, and is celebrated every 3rd Thursday of May, an international holiday that spreads the idea of Ukrainian identity in the World, popularizes culture and Ukrainian traditions, and helps the formation of Ukrainian national consciousness, nurturing the patriotism and unity of the Ukrainian people.

La Mail Art (arte postale) è un movimento artistico di libero scambio di opere d’arte, generalmente in formato cartolina postale, che vive quasi sempre al di fuori dei circuiti ufficiali dell'arte, e che esula dalle dinamiche di mercato o commerciali dell’arte.
Caratteristica della mail art è anche l’assenza di giudizio edi selezionedelle opere, in un'etica di egualitarismo tra i partecipanti.
La mail art mette in correlazione mittente e destinatario, creando una comunità basata sulla comunicazione e sulle interrelazioni tra stili e linguaggi diversi di artisti di tutto il Mondo, favorendo la diversità culturale. Spesso la mail art è stata anche un veicolo di espressione libero su temi di interesse o denuncia sociale, e in molti Paesi è stata vissuta addirittura come una “voce” rivoluzionaria controregimi e censure.
La mail art abbraccia non solo opere nei classici formati cartolina, ma anche francobolli artistici, buste decorate, timbri, figurine d’artista, fanzines, libri d’artista o opere tridimensionali, e possono anche includere poesie, e a volte persino audio e video.
Mail Art is an artistic movement of free exchange of artworks, generally in postcard format, which almost always lives outside the official art circuits, and which goes beyond the dynamics of art market or trade.
Characteristic of mail art is also the absence of judgment and selection of the works, in an ethic of egalitarianism among the participants.
Mail art correlates sender and recipient, creating a community based on communication and interrelationships between different styles and languages of artists from all over the World, favoring cultural diversity.
Mail art has also often been a vehicle of free expression on themes of social interest or social protest, and in many Countries it has even been experienced as a revolutionary "voice" against regimes and censorship.
Mail art embraces not only works in the classic postcard format, but also artistic stamps, decorated envelopes, stamps, artist stickers, fanzines, artist’s books or three-dimensional works, and can also include poems, and sometimes even audio and video.
